Workinitiatives offers free job ads to help local employers in eligible states and territories connect with talent nearby, at no cost. If you are hiring in a smaller workforce area where the right candidates are hard to find, a free ad gets your role in front of nearby job seekers on your local community board for 10 days.
This is part of Workinitiatives commitment to supporting local employers to find local talent in their community.
Free job ads are available for jobs located in the Northern Territory, South Australia and Tasmania. Any Workinitiatives location board within these states supports free posting, including boards added in future. Examples include:
NT: WorkinNT, WorkinDarwin, WorkinAliceSprings
SA: WorkinSouthAustralia, WorkinAdelaide
Tas: WorkinTas, WorkinHobart, WorkinLaunceston
Eligibility is confirmed automatically at the publish step: if the Free option appears, your location qualifies.
Before you start
To post a free job ad, keep two things in mind:
You need an active Employer account.
Labour Market Testing (LMT) must be toggled off. Free ads are not eligible for LMT. If you are advertising to support a visa sponsorship and need to meet LMT requirements, you will need a paid Pay as you go ad instead.
Create your job ad
1. Start a new job ad
Go to your Dashboard and click Post a job in the top right.
2. Complete the job information
Fill in the details for your role: Job title, Category, Sub category, Search job location, Work type, Salary type and Salary range, then set your candidate matching preferences.
IMPORTANT: Leave Labour Market Testing (LMT) toggled off at the top of this page. If LMT is switched on, the free option will not be available when you publish, because free ads cannot be used for LMT purposes.
IMPORTANT: Under Search job location, enter your job's suburb and postcode. If the location is in an eligible regional or remote area, the Free posting option will appear at the publish step.
3. Save and Publish.
Once you have reviewed everything, scroll to the bottom and click Save & publish.
4. Choose the free posting option
On the review screen you will see two ways to post. Select the Free option ($0). It will show:
Local community posting only, active for 10 days
The local board your ad will publish to (for example, WorkinBendigo)
That the ad is not eligible for Labour Market Testing
5. Confirm and publish
Check the Cart Summary and confirm. Your ad goes live on your local community board for 10 days at no cost.
Extend your reach or run for longer
Free ads are local-only and run for 10 days. If you want to keep the role live for longer, or reach a national and international audience (for example, when local applications are limited), choose Pay as you go ($249 per job ad) at the publish step instead. Pay as you go ads are active for 30 days and are eligible for Labour Market Testing.
Best practice tips
Post local first. Trial the free local ad before paying for wider reach. In many regional roles you will find nearby talent without needing to go national.
Get the location right. Eligibility and the correct community board both depend on an accurate suburb and postcode.
Only turn LMT on if you need it. Keep it off for free ads. Switch it on only when you are advertising for visa sponsorship, and expect to use a paid ad in that case.
Write a clear title and honest salary range. Local job seekers scan quickly, so specific, transparent ads attract more of the right applicants.
Watch the 10-day window. It is short. Check your applicants regularly and, if volume is low, upgrade to Pay as you go early rather than letting the ad lapse.
Troubleshooting
The Free option does not appear at the publish step
Check that Labour Market Testing (LMT) is toggled off, as free ads cannot be used for LMT purposes. Also confirm your Search job location suburb and postcode are correct. If the free option still does not appear, your postcode may not be eligible for free posting, so contact support to confirm.
My ad is only showing on the local board, not nationally
This is expected. Free ads are local community postings only. To appear on the national and international network, including Workforce Australia and Talent Expert, publish the role as Pay as you go.
My free ad has expired
Free ads run for 10 days. To run for longer and widen your reach, republish the role using Pay as you go.
I am not sure whether my postcode is eligible
Eligibility is confirmed at the publish step. If the Free card appears, your location qualifies. If you are still unsure, contact support before publishing.
