Check work rights for Employers

This is useful for employers hiring international workers, as it ensures that the individual has the necessary visa to work in Australia.

Updated over 4 months ago

Employers must ensure that all their employees have the legal right to work in Australia. Employers should verify a potential employee has a valid visa that allows them to work and their visa status should be checked periodically throughout employment.

If employees are found to be working without a visa or in violation of their visa conditions, your business could face large fines and other penalties under the Migration Amendment (Reform of Employer Sanctions) Act 2013.

Australian citizens have unlimited rights to work in Australia. For applicants or employees who are not citizens, you can check their right to work through our platform.

If you employ many non-citizens, we offer bulk visa checks to help you manage right to work compliance, by automating ongoing work rights checks every 7, 14 or 28 days.

The visa check information supplied is generated from the Australian Government, Department of Home Affairs Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) system.

What is the Cost

For every job posted on WorkinAUS, you'll receive 3 visa check credits to check work rights for applicants. After that, additional checks are just $4.50 each. This includes if you are On Demand, on a monthly subscription or job pack, you will also receive a number of visa checks included. Plus, you’ll receive a detailed report for every successful check sent straight to your inbox.

How to run a single visa check for an applicant

If you would like to verify the work rights using your free visa credits, you will navigate to the Menu > Jobs > Job ads section. Find the role you are reviewing applicants for and and select the applicants that has applied. This will refresh and show you your list of applicants.

From this screen, locate your applicant and you will have the option to check work rights.

Your next screen will show your available visa check credit balance or will ask for payment should you have run out of visa check credits and proceed with the check.

The applicant will then receive an email from WorkinAUS requesting they provide their passport information securely to conduct the visa check.

Once the required information is provided by the applicant, the check will be completed and a detailed report is sent to the admin's inbox.
