Writable’s Read & Write Essay Assignment Wizard makes setting up an assignment with a prompt, reading, and rubric easy.
Log into your Writable account.
Click on the ‘Create’ link at the top of the page, then select the 'Read & Write Essay' tab inside the box.
Choose if you'd like to get AI Suggestions or Write Your Own prompt. If you choose to write your own prompt, you can skip to step 6 below!
Enter your topic and click to generate possible prompts.
Read and choose a prompt. Then click the arrow icon to move to the next step.
Edit your prompt as needed.
Add reading passages by clicking 'Add Readings'. You can paste text or upload a PDF as a reading passage. Click 'Skip This Step' if you do not wish to add a reading.
Click 'Choose Rubric' to open the Rubric Explorer.
In 'Explore Rubrics' you can use the filters on the left side to narrow down your results by language (Spanish or English), grade band or level, genre, and scale. For more information on finding a rubric click here.
Click on a rubric to expand and view its details. To add the rubric to the assignment click 'Use Rubric'. To copy and make adjustments to a rubric follow these directions.
(Optional) Review feedback on your assignment prompt to improve your AI suggested feedback, including comments and scores. You can edit the prompt directly to make improvements as needed and then click 'Next'.
Finally, give your assignment a title. Your assignment should have a different title from the other assignments you've saved to 'My Assignments' and should be student-friendly. Click 'Finish' to save your assignment.
