Upload digital files, including Word Docs (.docx, .doc) and Google Docs, to create a Writable assignment and view AI feedback. If you haven't set up your Writable classes yet, you can opt to load writing to demo accounts to preview AI-generated feedback.

Have an existing Google Classroom assignment?
Click 'Import Google Coursework' from the Import Work page. Click here to read more.

  1. From your Writable account, click 'Import Work' at the top.

  2. Next, click 'Upload digital files'.

  3. Click 'Existing Class'.

Tip! Haven't set up your Writable classes yet? You can opt to use a demo class to view feedback on your students' sample writing.

  4. Next, select your class and then select 'Upload files'.

  5. Choose to upload either local files (.doc, .docx) or Google files directly from your Google Drive. In this example, we will upload local files.

❗️Note: You will only be able to upload files once. After the initial upload, you cannot upload more files or re-upload any new files.

  6. Choose the files from your device and click 'Open'. You will see the file names in the left list. When you're ready, click 'Match files to students'.

Tip! Need to import from both your device and Google Drive? Click 'Upload Google files' to select from your Google Drive.

  7. For this step you will match each student to their writing. The left window will show the file name and a preview of the writing. The right window shows the list of your students.

    • Click 'Attach file' by a student's name to match the visible writing to that student's account.

    • Click 'Remove file' to unlink the writing.

    • Each student can only be associated with a single file.

    • If you've chosen to upload Google Docs, students with Google accounts may be automatically associated with those files.

  8. Then, click 'Create Assignment' once you have matched all work to students.

  9. Next, complete the assignment creation wizard. In these 4 steps, you can edit your prompt, choose a rubric, get prompt feedback, and adjust your assignment title.

  10. Once your coursework has loaded, and AI feedback has been generated, click 'View Assignment'.

  11. You will then be taken to the Assignment Dashboard for that assignment. You can then view AI generated feedback by going to the Guide/Grade tab or clicking on a student name to open up the full grading stack. For more information on the Assignment Dashboard, click here.
