Rules for Being On-Camera

Dungeon Master Rules about Being On/Off Camera

Written by Mandycore the Manticore

When should a DM's webcam be on?

If you are in active gameplay, then your webcam must be on. There should not be a point during gameplay where your webcam should be off.

This includes:

  • Welcoming Young Heroes as they log onto the session

  • Running the game itself

  • While Young Heroes make their next decision in combat

  • Answering questions about the game

  • Wrapping up the session

When should a DM's webcam be off?

If you are taking a break or pausing gameplay for everyone, you should be muted with your webcam off.

For example:

  • You need to go to the bathroom

  • Someone is delivering a package to your door

  • A family member or roommate comes into the room to ask you a question

The Reason for the Rule

We understand this is different than what you normally expect as a Dungeon Master, needing to be aware of webcam best practices.

This is intended as a safety feature. We want to be sure that only people who are authorized to be in the game (the DM and the Young Heroes signed up) are able to be part of the session.

If your webcam is off, we cannot guarantee to Guardians that you, the person we have vetted, are the only person in your room.
