What are the rules about cameras for Family Games?

Private Family Games have different rules about who can be on camera than public Young Heroes games

Written by Ida B. Holder

What is a family game?

A family game is a private Young Heroes adventure that a certified DM runs just for your family. Everyone in your household can play at the same table, and you can invite another family to join if you want a bigger group.

Because Young Heroes games are built for kids, family games are always private. The only players at the table are the ones you invite.

Family games are run using Zoom and D&D Beyond only, the same as all Young Heroes games.

Full details on how to book a family game can be found here.

Who can be on camera in these games?

Anyone who is playing in the game must be on camera for these games. Children and Guardians need to be on camera to participate, and the DM will be on camera just like they would in any other Young Heroes game. Anyone who is not registered to play may not be on camera.

Because these are private games where you, the Guardian, are also playing, children under the age of 9 are permitted with appropriate supervision. This way, the whole family can be involved in the fun!

Please be sure to communicate the ages of everyone who is playing with your DM when scheduling. This allows them to prepare appropriately.

Are these games recorded?

Yes, these games are recorded via Zoom and stored by StartPlaying for 90 days, the same as Young Heroes public games.

More information on how Young Heroes games are recorded and stored can be found here.

Can I cast the game to our TV?

Sure! We know it can be hard to have everyone crowded around one laptop, so you are welcome to cast the game onto a larger screen if needed. Keep in mind that this does not mean it can be broadcast or streamed anywhere; it stays on your closed-circuit TV, for just your own viewing.
