How do I connect my technology to Stacks, create device groups, and prepare for a data capture session?

Written by Drew Pomeroy

Overview

Connecting your technology to Stacks ensures that athlete data captured during a BASE session flows into the right profiles automatically. This article covers how to add devices, create device groups, assign them to your roster groups, and verify everything is working before a session begins.

Compatible Devices

Stacks is currently compatible with the following devices only. If you are using a device not on this list — such as Rapsodo — it cannot be connected to Stacks at this time.

How to Add a Device

  1. Navigate to Org. Settings in the side panel

  2. Select Devices

  3. Click Add Device

  4. Enter a Device Custom Name that identifies the unit and its function at your facility

    • Example: Facility Trackman Hit or MTC Loden 1

  5. Select the Device Type and enter the required credentials for that device type:

Device Groups

What is a Device Group? A Device Group is a collection of connected devices assigned to a specific team, roster, or session. Groups ensure that when data is captured across multiple devices during a BASE session, it all routes to the correct athlete profiles automatically — no manual sorting required.

How to Create a Device Group

  1. Navigate to Org. Settings → Device Groups

  2. Select Create Group

  3. Enter a name that reflects the session or roster it will serve

    • Example: EL1 Spring Tryouts or MTC Premium Group 1

  4. Select the devices to include in the group

  5. Click Create Device Group

How to Assign a Device Group to a Roster Group

Once your Device Group is created, you need to assign it to a roster group so athlete profiles are linked to the correct devices.

  1. Click Groups in the side panel

  2. Click Create Group

  3. Enter the Group Name

  4. Select the Default Device Group you just created

  5. Click Continue

  6. Select the players you want to include in this group

    • You can assign a specific Device Group to each individual player, or they will inherit the group's default Device Group automatically

  7. Click Continue

  8. Choose the members who will be part of this group — these are users with Admin or Instructor roles

  9. Click Create Group

How to Change a Device Group for an Existing Group

If you need to update which Device Group is assigned to an existing roster group:

  1. Click Groups in the side panel

  2. Click the desired group

  3. Click the pencil icon next to the group name

  4. Edit the group name and/or change the Default Device Group

  5. Select the desired Device Group

  6. Click Save Changes

Before Every Data Capture Session — Pre-Session Checklist

Before athletes arrive, log into each individual device and verify the following:

  • Your Stacks groups are appearing correctly on the device

  • The correct athlete profiles are loaded and visible

  • All devices are fully charged

  • All devices are connected and syncing properly

⚠️ Do not begin a data capture session until all devices have been checked. Missing athlete profiles or incorrect group assignments discovered mid-session can result in lost or misrouted data that cannot be recovered.
