Shopify Acenda Integration 2026

How to create the Acenda custom app in your Shopify store and get your Client ID and Secret for the Fulfillment Provider connection.

This guide creates the Shopify custom app you need to connect Shopify to Acenda as a Fulfillment Provider — the setup where Acenda sends your orders to Shopify for fulfillment. Since January 1, 2026, Shopify retired the old private-app "API Key and Password" screen, so every new connection now starts with a custom app in Shopify’s Dev Dashboard, which gives you a Client ID and Secret to enter in Acenda instead.

This Client ID and Secret are used by the Shopify Fulfillment Provider integration only. Before you start: You’ll need admin access to your Shopify store to create and install the app. If you don’t see Develop apps in Shopify, or Shopify won’t let you create one, see Troubleshooting below.

Phase 1: Create the Acenda Custom App in Shopify

Step 1: Open Shopify App Development

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Settings (gear icon).

  3. Go to Apps and sales channels.

  4. Click Develop apps (top right).

  5. Click Build apps in Dev Dashboard.

Tip: If this is your first custom app, Shopify may prompt you to Allow custom app development. Confirm to continue.

Step 2: Create the App

  1. In the Dev Dashboard, click Create app.

  2. Enter an app name (Recommended: Acenda).

  3. Click Create. You are now inside the app workspace.

Step 3: Configure API Scopes (Permissions)

  1. In the left-hand menu, open Access settings (or Configuration).

  2. Locate the Scopes field.

  3. Copy and paste the full list below directly into the field:

read_all_orders, read_orders, write_orders, read_customers, write_customers, read_products, write_products, read_inventory, write_inventory, read_locations, write_locations, read_fulfillments, write_fulfillments, read_assigned_fulfillment_orders, write_assigned_fulfillment_orders, read_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, write_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, read_returns, write_returns, read_reports, write_reports

  1. Scroll to the bottom and click Release.

  2. A confirmation modal will appear; click Release again.

Tip: You can optionally give the version a name (for example, "Initial Acenda Sync"), but it’s not required.

Phase 2: Install the App on Your Store

Step 4: Install the App

  1. In the Dev Dashboard sidebar, click Home under your Acenda app.

  2. Click Install app.

  3. If you manage multiple Shopify stores, select the correct store from the list.

  4. Review the permissions screen and click the black Install button.

Phase 3: Connect Shopify to Acenda

Step 5: Find Your Shopify Store Name (Handle)

  1. Return to your main Shopify Admin.

  2. Go to Settings > Domains.

  3. Locate the domain ending in .myshopify.com.

  4. Copy only the text appearing before.myshopify.com.

    • Example: if your domain is my-store.myshopify.com, copy my-store.

Step 6: Add the Integration in Acenda

  1. In the Acenda sidebar, under CHANNELS, click Integrations.

  2. Click Edit next to your Shopify Fulfillment Provider integration (or + New if you haven’t added it yet — see Acenda and Shopify Integration: Step-by-Step Guide for that first step).

  3. Open the Authorization tab.

  4. Paste the subdomain from Step 5 into Shopify Store Name.

Step 7: Copy Your API Credentials

  1. Return to the Shopify Dev Dashboard and open your Acenda app’s Settings.

  2. Locate the Client ID and Secret, and click the copy icon next to each.

  3. Back in Acenda’s Authorization tab, paste them in:

    • Client ID → Acenda’s Client ID field

    • Secret → Acenda’s Client Secret field

  4. Leave the older API Key and Auth Token fields blank — those belong to Shopify’s retired private-app flow and aren’t used by custom apps.

  5. Click Save.

Treat your Secret like a password. Don’t paste it into a support ticket, email, or chat message. If you think it’s been exposed, click Rotate in the Shopify Dev Dashboard to generate a new one, then update it in Acenda.

Troubleshooting

  • Don’t see "Develop apps" in Shopify, or Shopify won’t let you create a custom app: custom app development may need to be allowed for the store first (see the Tip in Step 1), or you may need store owner permissions — ask your Shopify store owner to enable it or create the app.

  • Acenda can’t connect, or shows an authentication error after you save: double-check Shopify Store Name is the bare subdomain before .myshopify.com — not a custom domain and not the full .myshopify.com address. Also confirm the app was Released (Step 3) and Installed (Step 4); a saved-but-uninstalled app can look connected in Acenda but fails on the first real call.

  • Connected, but one feature doesn’t work (for example, something touching orders, inventory, or returns): add the matching scope to the Scopes field from Step 3 on Shopify’s side, click Release again, and give it a few minutes to take effect.

  • You regenerated the Secret in Shopify: Acenda doesn’t pick up a rotated Secret automatically — copy the new one and update Acenda’s Client Secret field, then Save.

🎉 Connection complete. Your Shopify store is now connected to Acenda as a Fulfillment Provider. Next, add your warehouses and set routing so Acenda knows where to ship orders from — see Adding and Managing Warehouses in Acenda.
