This guide outlines what is required and what is allowed during your Casper test. Follow these rules carefully to avoid interruptions or disqualification.
System Requirements
System Requirements
You must take the Casper test on a computer (desktop or laptop) in a quiet, private location of your choice. Your device and internet connection must meet the following:
Browser: Use only Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Make sure they are updated to the latest version. Other browsers (like Safari or Edge) are not supported and may cause issues.
Device: Use a Windows or macOS computer. Phones, tablets, Chromebooks, iPads, and Linux systems are not supported.
Note: Hybrid devices like Microsoft Surface are allowed but might have technical issues. More info here.
Internet Speed: Minimum download speed of 1.5 Mbps and upload of 2 Mbps. Faster is better. You can test your internet speed through your Acuity Insights account.
Webcam & Microphone: A working webcam and microphone are required for identity checks and monitoring. Built-in or external options are both fine.
During the Test
During the Test
Take the test alone. No one can assist you.
Webcam and mic must stay on the entire time. Your face should be visible (except during scheduled breaks).
Type your answers. Speech-to-text or dictation tools are not allowed, unless pre-approved accommodations are in place.
Disable browser extensions, VPNs, and firewalls before starting your test.
No need to show your ID at the start of the test.
Breaks
Breaks
A 10-minute optional break is available halfway through the test after video questions.
A second 5-minute optional break comes after the first 4 written questions (Casper for Australian Teacher’s Education does not include this second break).
During breaks, you're allowed to step away—but return on time to resume your test.
Devices and Distractions
Devices and Distractions
Do not use your phone, even during breaks. Turn off notifications or disconnect your phone from your computer.
Remove smartwatches or any wearable tech before starting.
Materials You Can Use
Materials You Can Use
Face masks: If local regulations require a mask, that’s okay. But you’ll need to briefly remove it at the start and midpoint of your test for ID photos, only if safe to do so. If not, contact Acuity Insights for help.
Food & drinks: You can eat or drink, but stay focused on the test.
Headphones: You may use corded headphones to listen to videos or block distractions. Wireless headphones may work, but test them first and ensure they’re fully charged.
Keyboards: You can connect an external keyboard to your laptop. Wireless keyboards are fine, but test them before the test starts.
Monitors: A second monitor is allowed. Just make sure your face is always visible to the webcam.
Note-taking: You can use blank sheets of paper, pen/pencil, and a hardcopy dictionary. Pre-written notes or grammar/translation tools are not allowed.
