What accommodations are available for Acuity Insights Assessments?

Available Accommodations for Acuity Insights Assessments

Updated over a week ago

Accommodation plans are created after the Acuity Insights team reviews your submitted Accommodations Request Form. This form must include documentation of your disability and/or functional limitation(s) and how it affects your ability to complete the assessment (e.g., Casper).

Commonly Approuved Accommodations

These are the most frequently approuved accommodations for Acuity Insights Assessments:

  • Additional time

  • Assistive software, such as:

    • Speech-to-Text (dictation)

    • Text-to-Speech (screen reader)

  • Assistive personnel, such as:

    • Scribe

    • Reader

Need an Accommodation Not on This List?

We understand that some applicants may require accommodations outside of these standard options. The Acuity Insights team will work with you to find the most appropriate solution, within the technical limits of our assessments.

What Accommodations Are Not Needed or Allowed?

Certain accommodations are either unnecessary or not permitted due to the design of our assessments. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Separate testing environments – Casper is completed online, you can complete it wherever you choose

  • Closed captioning – Provided by default on all assessment videos

  • Spelling or grammar correction software – Not needed, as Casper Raters are instructed to disregard spelling and grammatical errors

  • Calculators or numerical tools – Not applicable, as there are no math questions

  • Extra time for slow typing – Unless related to a diagnosed disability or condition

Who Covers the Cost of Accommodations?

The review of accommodation requests and any accommodation measures resulting in the modification of the assessment(s) format (e.g., additional time) are provided free of charge.

However, certain approved accommodations, such as assistive software (e.g., Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech) or assistive personnel (e.g., Scribe and Reader), must be procured by the applicant at their expense. One reason for this is that Acuity Insights does not use testing centres and thus each applicant’s test environment (both physical and technological) may differ.

For full details on how approved accommodations are applied, refer to the Summary of Acuity Insights Accommodations.
