How to Randomize Mini Quiz Options

Randomize mini-quiz options to avoid biases in visitor's selection.

Written by Jason Lushington

The order that options appear in a list often creates implicit bias towards certain options. To help offset this, we can shuffle around the options for each new session using the Randomize Child Order control.

When selected, each time a user sees the pop-up, the answers will appear in a randomized order. This order won't change during a single session, but each new session / user will see a different order.

Step 1: Select the Mini Quiz Container

  • Open the popup you want to edit in the Alia editor.

  • View the specific page that the mini quiz is located on within the flow. In our example here that would be the first step labeled Mini quiz.

  • On the left hand side of the editor, select the container that holds the mini quiz options. This will be located within the Mini quiz content that is unique to this step.

Step 2: Randomize the Order

  • Check the box beside Randomize order of child elements on the top of the right hand side of the editor

That's it! Once selected, the elements shown within the box will appear in random a order for different users.
