Metal Panels
The Metal Panels dialog allows you to define all types of metal roofing and wall panels used in your projects.
This includes steel, aluminium, polycarbonate, and fibreglass sheeting, as they all share the same database structure and are used in similar ways.
As with all product definitions, the Product Code is the key element — it links the tile to its accessories, pricing, and labour records.
When you select Set-Up Metal Panels, the Define Metal Panels dialog box opens.
📋 Definition Fields
Field | Description |
Supplier | Enter the supplier name or click Supplier to select one from the existing database list. The list of Suppliers is set up in People. See People for more info. |
Profile | Enter or select the panel profile from the existing list. The list of profiles is based on the existing Tile definitions.
💡 Note: If you intend to use this definition for curved sheeting (e.g. bullnose verandahs or cranked eaves), the profile name must include the word “curve” or “curved” (e.g. “Curved Softform” or “Curve Quality Longspan”). |
Finish | Enter or select the finish of the panel (e.g. Colorbond, Zincalume, Galvanised). The list of Names is based on the existing Tile definitions. |
Fastener Code | Select a predefined fastener from the list or enter a new fastener directly into the fastener field. Fasteners are defined in Set-Up>Fasteners. See Set-Up>Fasteners for more info. |
Fasteners | Defines how fasteners are quantified — either: |
Product Code | A unique identifier for this panel, used to connect pricing, labour, and accessories. |
Coil Info | Allows you to define coil details (width, weight) to assist with ordering and cost tracking. |
Coverage Width | The exposed coverage width of one sheet. Determines how many panels are needed to cover the roof. |
Thickness | The base metal thickness (BMT) of the sheet. Used for reference and specification. |
Cost | The cost of the material. |
Min Order Length | The minimum orderable sheet length. |
Max Order Length | The maximum orderable sheet length. |
Allowances to Use | Specifies a saved allowance file for this panel. These allowances determine coverage, lap, and cutting waste used by Generate Panel Layout and other estimating tools. See Estimate > Allowances for more info. |
Pay Rate Schedule | Allows you to pre-select a labour rate for this metal panel.
To define a Pay Rate Schedule go to Set-Up > Metal Pay Rates - Variable.
See Metal Pay Rates - Variable for more info. |
Alternate Category | Assigns the tile to an alternate category for sorting in the Supply & Install summary. |
PDF File | Allows you to attach a PDF document — such as a manufacturer specification sheet — for inclusion in your documentation package. |
Composite Panels
When you split the panel on composite panels will report a cut back length and a lay direction too. Standard panels will not report these values.
See Estimate>Split Panels for more info.
🪟 Dialog Controls

💼 Quote Groups and Categories
Roof Wizard supports advanced pricing and job management workflows, including integration with external accounting systems.
Each material item — including metal panels — can be assigned to a Quote Group.
This allows you to divide estimates into logical categories such as:
Panel Supply
Panel Installation
Accessories
Labour
By assigning a category to each product, your reports and exported data remain organised and consistent across projects.
📄 Linking PDF Documents
You can also link external PDF documents (e.g. manufacturer data sheets or specifications) to each metal panel.
This lets you automatically include product documentation in your final quote or report packages.
All linked PDFs are recorded in a file named:
PDFS.CSV
This file includes:
The Product Code
The Filename/Path of the PDF document
Example:
PANEL_LSPN450, Lysaght_Longspan_TDS.pdf
If a Drawing Report of type PDFReport is defined under Drawings, Roof Wizard can automatically compile and print all linked PDFs into a complete documentation set for your estimate.
✅ Summary
The Metal Panels definition dialog allows you to:
Define all sheet profiles, finishes, and fastener requirements
Assign pay rates and material costs
Link manufacturer documentation
Maintain consistent product codes across supply and labour
Prepare for advanced pricing, reporting, and documentation workflows
🔹 Always ensure each panel definition has a unique product code — this ensures proper linking between pricing, accessories, and documentation throughout your workflow.
