Scenario
Mika Media teaches in the Media Production program. Over the past years, students in her course have produced dozens of short films, documentaries, and creative video projects. She wants to showcase these productions in a dedicated Moodle course, inspiring current students. The course should feel like a video-on-demand platform.
Proposed solution
Create multiple Video Time activities with Vimeo videos.
Use preview image mode to display Vimeo thumbnails directly on the course page.
Show tags of each video as a quick orientation about the video's content.
Prerequisites
All videos hosted on Vimeo, already configured with tags.
Video Time Premium must be installed on your Moodle site.
Your Vimeo account needs to be connected with Video Time.
Implementation
For each video, you have to create a Video Time activity. For this example, we will implement four videos, displaying always two videos side by side.
Create the first Video Time activity
In settings under 'General' configure the following settings:
Choose video:
Select the video from your connected Vimeo library.
When confirming your selection, make sure 'Insert metadata from video' is enabled.
Activity name: Automatically pulled from Vimeo
Mode: Preview image mode
Show title: Enable
Show tags: Enable
Columns: 2 (50% width)
Preview image: 1920 x 1200
Resume playback: Enable
In settings under 'Tags' configure the following settings:
Tags: Automatically pulled from Vimeo
In 'Embed options' configure the following settings:
No specific settings are needed.
You can individualize the embedding options to your preferences.
Create the three missing Video Time activities
Duplicate the created Video Time three times. In each duplicate, repeat the following step with a different video.
In settings under 'General' configure the following settings:
Choose video:
Select the video from your connected Vimeo library.
When confirming your selection, make sure 'Insert metadata from video' is enabled.
This updates the tags and the title of each Video Time but preserves all other settings.
Result
The course becomes a dynamic archive of student work β visually engaging, easy to browse, and inspirational for new students. Each production appears as an individual tile with a preview image and opens in a focused playback view.
