When you select the Designer format in a course, additional header settings become available in the course settings. These options let you customize the course header with progress indicators, summaries, and visual design.
Available settings
Extended progress bar
Hide or show student progress as an extended bar, based on the chosen calculation of course progress.
Clicking the bar opens a modal window with direct links to completion conditions.
Displayed conditions depend on where the bar is clicked (completed, not completed).
Progress is also shown below the bar in text form.
Course progress (Pro only)
Displays course progress in the upper right corner of the header.
Disabled – No progress is displayed.
Progress bar – Bar with the percentage written inside.
Donut – Donut with the percentage written inside.
Option: Display checkmark upon course completion (only with Donut).
Calculation of course progress (Pro only)
Choose how course progress is calculated:
Completion criteria – All criteria used for course completion.
Relevant activities – Only activities used for course completion.
All activities – All activities with completion tracking.
Sections – Progress is based on sections.
Section progress (Pro only)
Displays progress in each section header.
Disabled – No progress is displayed.
Progress bar – Bar with the percentage written inside.
Donut – Donut with the percentage written inside.
Calculation of section progress (Pro only)
Choose how section progress is calculated:
Relevant activities – Only activities used for course completion.
All activities – All activities with completion tracking.
Completion status indicator (Pro only)
Displays the overall course status in the header: Enrolled, In progress, or Completed.Disabled – No indicator is shown.
Below course progress – Displayed below the progress element.
With course metadata – Displayed next to course metadata.
Type (Pro only)
Enables the header and defines its width:
None – No header is added.
Hero – Header with full page width.
Content – Header's width matches course content.
Summary (Pro only)
Choose how the course summary is displayed:
Disabled – No summary.
Trimmed – Trimmed course summary (length configured in global settings).
Full – Complete course summary.
Additional content (Pro only)
Add extra content to the header using the Moodle editor.
Background color (Pro only)
Set a background color with the color picker or a hex code.
This also changes the background of the secondary menu.Text color (Pro only)
Set a text color with the color picker or a hex code.
Background image (Pro only)
Upload an image via file picker or drag-and-drop.
The background image overlays the background color but does not affect the secondary menu.
Accepted file types: .gif .jpe .jpeg .jpg .png .svg .svgz
This is not the course image but handled separately.
Minimum height (Pro only)
Set a minimum header height in pixels.
Full screen - If enabled, the header fills the full height of the screen.
Course fields to display (Pro only)
Show selected course fields in the header.

Select time-related elements to display in header.
Enrolment start date
Enrolment end date
Course due date
Course completion date
Course due date (Pro only)
Course due date will be shown in course time section.

Users with the selected role(s) will be displayed in the header.
Note: The option “Any” in completion conditions is not supported for displayed progress. If course completion requires one of two activities, progress will only show as complete when both activities are completed.
