What's in General Settings?

What lives on the General tab: listing sets, WhatsApp, email accounts, email templates, billing, accounting, Stripe connections, language settings and your hosting company details.

What's in General Settings?

General is one of the nine tabs under Settings, alongside My Account, Phone, AI Messaging, Upsells, Widget, Upsells Portal, Besty MCP and User Management. It holds account-wide configuration.

Each section on this page saves independently. Every block has its own Save button. If you change something in two sections and press one Save, only that section is kept. This is the most common way to lose work on this page, so save each block as you finish it.

Listing sets

"Create custom groups of listings." Each set has a name and a multi-select holding one removable chip per listing, with a red cross to delete the whole set and a plus at the foot to add another. The whole block shares one Save.

The Listing Sets block, each set with an editable name and one removable chip per listing

Listing sets are worth learning early, because they are the scoping primitive the rest of Besty is built on. Journeys scope to them, damage waiver configurations scope to them, upsells scope to them, bulk assignments scope to them, guidebook visibility scopes to them, permissions scope to them, and the Inbox filters by them. Almost every "how do I apply this to only some of my properties" question comes back to this block.

There is no select-all, so building a large set is a manual job.

WhatsApp

Connect a WhatsApp Business account so you can send and receive messages with guests over WhatsApp.

Read the warning on this section before you click anything. Connecting a personal WhatsApp account here permanently deletes it and replaces it with a business one, and it cannot be undone. The full detail is in our article on connecting WhatsApp to Besty.

Connect your Email accounts

"Connect any of your Email accounts so Besty can communicate with guests via email." You can add a Gmail account, an Outlook account, or any other mailbox over IMAP.

Connected accounts are listed with their status, whether they are read only, whether they are primary, whether an app password is set, and when they last synced.

Two things worth getting right at setup:

  • The address you connect should be the one you use on your PMS, because Besty pulls automated and journey emails sent from your PMS into your unified inbox from that mailbox. For platforms like Streamline and Escapia in particular, make sure it matches.

  • If your Airbnb resolution centre uses a different address, add it as a second account and mark it read only, so Besty receives those messages but never sends from it.

Gmail connections usually need an app password rather than your account password, which on a Workspace account may need an admin to enable first. That is the most common snag on this section.

Email HTML templates

"Style your emails with your company's branding, including any styling, logos, and signatures." There are three separate templates, each added independently: one for autopilot emails, one for upsell offer emails, and one for emails sent from the dashboard.

Billing and Accounting

Billing holds a single Setup payment method action. Accounting is where you connect a trust accounting platform, and shows the integration with its connection state.

Stripe connections

Stripe sits inside the General block near the foot of the page, not in a section of its own, so scroll rather than looking for a Stripe heading.

Stripe connections inside the General block, one card per account, one Connected and one Pending

You can connect more than one Stripe account. Each is a card showing its nickname, whether it is Connected or Pending, whether it is the default, the account email, the Stripe account ID, the linked bank and last four digits, the country, its listing scope and the date it was connected.

Edit scope on a card is what points one Stripe account at part of your portfolio while another takes the rest. That is the answer for operators running several legal entities through one Besty account.

A card in the Pending state shows the reason, for example "Needs setup: Requirements past due", and offers Continue setup, which takes you into Stripe's own onboarding. If a payout has not arrived, check this row before opening Stripe.

Language

There are two language settings and they are set independently.

The two language settings above the hosting company name and hosting agent fields

  • Default language for communicating with guests, with a checkbox for "Use the language the guest uses in the conversation". With that ticked, the guest's own language wins and the list is the fallback.

  • Language for conversation summaries, which controls the language your team reads internally.

Changing one does not change the other, so your team can read summaries in one language while guests are answered in another.

Your hosting company name and Hosting agent

Two free text fields at the foot of the section. They are used when an offer is the first message sent to a guest: the hosting company name appears beside the email, and the hosting agent is used as the email signature. If a single person runs the account, both can be left blank.

Auto-enable new listings

Auto-enable new listings when Besty detects them in your PMS decides whether a newly synced property starts messaging guests immediately, and starts billing, without anyone approving it. It is easy to miss and it has real consequences either way, so set it deliberately.

Below this sit the section's Save and a Logout control.

Looking for your phone number or SMS settings?

Phone is its own tab under Settings, not part of General. Call routing, IVR, voicemail, greetings and call recording are all configured there.
