My tasks reset to the wrong date, or lost the person I assigned them to

A week of scheduled cleans or inspections snaps back to the check-in date, or gets unassigned overnight. The two causes, and how to make a manual change stick.

Two different things cause this

Tasks moving back to a date you did not choose, and tasks losing their assignee, look like the same problem but come from two separate parts of the system. It is worth checking both.

Dates: the automation is reapplying its own timing

A task created by an automation is anchored to the event that triggered it, usually the guest's check-in or check-out. While that task is linked, Besty keeps it in step with the automation, so an edit you make by hand can be replaced with the automation's own values.

The usual giveaway is that everything lands on the check-in date. That normally means the automation is set to schedule the task 0 days after check-in.

There are three ways to fix it, depending on what you actually need:

  • For a one-off change, create a separate manual task rather than editing the automated one. A manual task has no automation to pull it back.

  • To keep an edit on the automated task, unlink it. An unlinked task is one Besty stops updating, so your change stays put. Editing a task normally unlinks it automatically, so check its state if a change did not hold.

  • If you are making the same change repeatedly, change the automation instead, so the task is created at the right time in the first place. Go to Operations, then Configuration, then Task Automations.

Assignees: a Bulk Assignment rule is in control

If tasks are being unassigned without anyone touching them, check whether you have a Bulk Assignment rule configured.

When a Bulk Assignment rule exists and no direct assignees are set, that rule governs who tasks go to. It can override assignments your team made by hand, which typically shows up as a schedule that was correct at the end of the day and unassigned the next morning.

You have two options:

  • Update the rule so it assigns the right people automatically when tasks are created.

  • Delete the rule if you would rather approve the schedule yourself and assign manually afterwards.

Deleting a Bulk Assignment rule is safe. It does not affect your existing tasks, your task templates, your checklists, your listings, or any assignments you have already made. It only stops the rule assigning people to newly created tasks from that point on.
