Auto-merging: connect transfers automatically

If you move crypto from an exchange to your wallet, Blockpit first sees two separate transactions: a withdrawal and a deposit. Auto-merging detects such pairs automatically and links them into a Transfer. This way your acquisition costs move along with the coins, and the move is not counted as a sale and a new purchase.

What does auto-merging do?

It links a withdrawal (tip Unlabeled (Out)) in integration B with the matching deposit (Unlabeled (In)) in integration A into a Transfer, fully automatically according to fixed rules.

ℹ️ Good to know: Prefer to link everything yourself? You can switch off auto-merging in your Account Settings (opt-out). After that, you only link transfers manually.

Why is the Transfer so important?

Only a Transfer carries your acquisition costs from one integration to the other. Without the link, the receiving wallet does not know the costs, and when you sell later, Blockpit calculates your gain too high.

✅ Normally you don't need to do anything

Once you have created and imported all your integrations, Blockpit usually detects transfers between your wallets and exchanges automatically.

💡 How does Blockpit decide?

Blockpit compares unlabeled withdrawals and deposits using fixed rules, mainly time window, asset and quantity, and links matching pairs to the label Transfer. We call this merging, because two transactions become one.

Which rules decide whether transactions are linked?

In simplified terms, Blockpit checks every possible pair as follows:

1️⃣ Deposit and withdrawal are in different integrations.

2️⃣ The transaction IDs (hashes) are matched.

3️⃣ It is the same asset.

4️⃣ The deposit is after the withdrawal (or at the same time).

5️⃣ There are no more than 2 hours between the two.

6️⃣ No more arrives than was sent.

7️⃣ At least 90% of the withdrawn quantity arrives.

8️⃣ If exactly one deposit and one withdrawal match, they are linked into a Transfer.

9️⃣ If several match (for example duplicates), Blockpit links the pairs with the smallest time difference first.

🔁 The check runs after every import: after exchange API and CSV imports, after wallet and Excel imports, and when you create a deposit or withdrawal manually.

Why was my Transfer not linked?

Reason

What to do

More than 2 hours between withdrawal and deposit

link them yourself

Less than 90% arrived, for example because of high network fees

link them yourself

Both sides are in the same integration

check whether it is really a transfer (e.g. a reversal), then link them yourself

One side is missing in Blockpit

add the integration or edit the transaction to a Transfer

The transactions were separated earlier with "Split transaction"

link them yourself, nothing happens automatically here anymore

⚠️ Attention: Auto-merging does not work for transactions that you separated with Split transaction.

💡 Find unlinked transfers

What auto-merging could not link is shown on the Account Health page. There you check the pairs and link them directly.
