Book Creator provides a built-in image search that returns over 2 million high quality and copyright free images using Pixabay and Google safe search to keep students engaged in creating their best work, aligned to any educational topic. You can read the support article on safe image searching to learn more.

Despite the safety features in place, when offering a wide-range of image search options, there may be rare occasions when an unsuitable image is returned.

How to block unsuitable images

Only teacher and admin users are able to block images using a flag that appears in the bottom right corner of each image search result.

If a student is logged into Book Creator and finds an unsuitable image they will be unable to flag it. The teacher or admin will need to login to their teacher Book Creator account and search for the image to flag and block it instantly for future use.

Quickly flag images

When the image thumbnails appear in the image search, simply click on the flag in the bottom right corner and select Block this image to instantly block the unsuitable image.

For individual teachers (free or premium)

Blocking the image will immediately remove it from any future searches for all users in any library associated with that teacher (including shared libraries they may be an author or co-teacher in).

For domain or quota premium licenses

For teachers using a district (domain) or quota license, blocking an image will remove it from any image search for all users in all teachers' libraries within the organization. This means that for districts that use Book Creator K-12, when an image is blocked by any teacher, it is blocked for all users in the district.

Global image blocking

When an image is blocked by any teacher or admin anywhere in the world, the image is also sent to Book Creator's Content Moderation Team. The blocked images are typically reviewed within 24 hours, and the team assesses if the image should be blocked globally for all Book Creator users worldwide.

πŸ’¬ Note: Image blocking using the flag will only block the unsuitable image moving forward. Any user that already had this image in their books will not be blocked unless a global block from Book Creator takes place.

Unblocking an image

If a teacher or admin want to unblock an image and make it available in search results again, they simply click on the blocked flag and select Unblock.

Blocking unsuitable content from Apps

There are many Apps in Book Creator that have great educational value such as the Giphy GIFs and Stickers and the Sketchfab 3D models which both offer safe, filtered multimedia content for users. These Apps are designed for older users (13+) and means at times there may be unsuitable images that appear.

Blocking Giphy GIFs and Stickers

Teachers and admins are able to block unsuitable Giphy GIFs and Stickers in the search results by simply right-clicking on the thumbnail image and selecting Block this image. A red flag will appear in the bottom right corner of the image and this will immediately block the model from being seen in any future search results for all users in all libraries associated with that teacher.

Blocking 3D Models

Teachers and admins are able to block unsuitable 3D models that may appear in the search results by simply right-clicking on the thumbnail image and selecting Block this image. A red flag will appear in the bottom right corner of the image and this will immediately block the model from being seen in any future search results for all users in all libraries associated with that teacher.
