To get started, go the + button then Apps and select Giphy to enable it. You can choose to enable it just for you, or you can select which libraries you want to allow for your students too. You can also access and enable Apps from the Teacher Dashboard. On the top of the screen, you will see the tabs for Libraries, Discover, Learn, Certification, and Apps. Simply go to the Apps section and enable or disable the apps of your choice.
Note - you will need a premium subscription to be able to add Giphy GIFs to your books.
Make sure you double-check Giphy's terms of service before you use the app. You can review important notes by clicking on the App Privacy details in the bottom left.
To use Giphy in Book Creator, click on the + button, then Apps and choose Giphy.
Once enabled, you can use the search bar to search the Giphy database (note - you can use voice search here by clicking the microphone icon in the search bar).
Toggle the search results between GIFs and Stickers, and when you're ready, click on the GIF you want or drag it onto the page.
Safe search in Giphy
In their terms of service, Giphy states that their app is not for under 13s (and no under 16s who are citizens of the European Union, United Kingdom, Lichtenstein, Norway, or Iceland). So please bear that in mind when deciding whether or not to enable Giphy for your students. Some of the search results will be inappropriate for young students.
For our part, we are filtering Giphy content using their safest content rating level (Level 1 - G), but bear in mind that this relies on user's correctly rating their own submitted content.
