Outbound Shipment
Updated over a week ago

Definition

An Outbound Shipment in the Bottleneck Manufacturing Portal represents the process of preparing and shipping products to customers or external locations. It involves the coordination of various activities, including order fulfillment, packaging, labeling, and arranging transportation. Outbound Shipments enable efficient management of product delivery and provide visibility into the shipping process.

Examples

For example, "Healthy Juices Inc." may create an Outbound Shipment to deliver 500 cases of "16oz Organic Apple Juice Bottles" to a customer's specified location. The Outbound Shipment would capture important details such as the shipping address, carrier information, and associated products and quantities.

Relations

  • Sales Order: Outbound Shipments are typically associated with a specific Sales Order, indicating the customer's order for which the shipment is being made.

  • Shipment Line Item: Outbound Shipments consist of one or more Shipment Line Items, representing the individual products and quantities being shipped.

  • Bill of Lading: A Bill of Lading is often generated for an Outbound Shipment, serving as a legal document and record of the shipped goods.

Example Relations

In our example, the Outbound Shipment of 500 cases of "16oz Organic Apple Juice Bottles" would be linked to the corresponding Sales Order from the customer. The Outbound Shipment would include multiple Shipment Line Items, specifying the individual quantities of "16oz Organic Apple Juice Bottles" to be shipped. Additionally, a Bill of Lading would be generated to document the shipment's details, including the carrier, shipping address, and the contents of the shipment.

Entity Lifecycle States

Outbound Shipments can have lifecycle states such as:

  • DRAFT: The Outbound Shipment is being created or edited and is not yet finalized.

  • SCHEDULED: The Outbound Shipment is scheduled for pickup or shipping.

  • IN_PROCESS: The Outbound Shipment is in progress, with the warehouse team members performing the necessary tasks, such as packaging, labeling, and preparing the shipment.

  • COMPLETED: The Outbound Shipment has been fully processed, and the products have been shipped or delivered to the customer.

  • CANCELED: The Outbound Shipment has been canceled and will not be fulfilled.

  • DELETED: The Outbound Shipment has been permanently removed from the system.

Shipment Line Item

A Shipment Line Item represents an individual product or quantity listed within an Outbound Shipment. It provides specific details about the items being shipped, such as the product name, quantity, and any additional specifications or options.

Bill of Lading

A Bill of Lading is a legal document generated for an Outbound Shipment. It serves as proof of receipt of goods by the carrier and outlines the terms, conditions, and details of the shipment. The Bill of Lading provides important information, including the shipper, consignee, shipping address, carrier details, and a description of the shipped goods.

Note: The transition from SCHEDULED to IN_PROCESS and then to COMPLETED indicates the progression of the shipment process, involving both the warehouse team members and the back-office users.
