Programming with %Reps

Prescribe rep targets as a percentage of each athlete's tested capacity so every athlete trains to their individual level.

Written by Lauren Johnson

The %Reps parameter lets you set rep targets relative to each athlete's tested capacity. Instead of prescribing the same flat rep count for everyone, you enter a single percentage and Bridge calculates each athlete's target automatically based on their test results.

This is ideal for push-ups, pull-ups, and any max-rep assessment where individual capacity varies.

What %Reps Does

%Reps calculates individualized rep targets by applying a percentage to each athlete's tested reps for a given exercise. If an athlete tested 42 push-ups and you prescribe 70%, their target is 29 reps. Another athlete who tested 51 gets a target of 36 reps. Same percentage, different targets.

Note: The %Reps parameter pulls from test results. You'll need to link an existing test or upload results before estimated reps will calculate.

Setting Up a Rep Test

Before you can use %Reps, your athletes need baseline test data. There are three ways to get it into Bridge:

  • From the builder: After selecting %Reps, you can select the test result it is linked to and manually enter results for your athletes.

  • In a workout: Add a required set for the exercise and have athletes test their reps. See Tracked & Required Sets for how to set this up.

  • Manual upload: If you collected results outside of Bridge, you can upload them directly. See Manually Uploading Test Results for details.

Once test results are recorded, they're available for %Reps calculations.

Note: The %Reps parameter pulls from test results. You'll need to link an existing test or upload results. If no test results exist, the %Reps field will appear empty on the athlete's end so they can log their output manually.

Programming with %Reps in the Builder

Once test results are in place, you can start programming with the %Reps parameter.

  1. Open your program and navigate to the workout where you want to prescribe %Reps.

  2. Click Add Exercise and select the exercise (e.g., Push Up).

  3. Click the Parameters dropdown in the exercise detail modal.

  4. Select Reps, then choose %Reps from the submenu (you'll also see a Reps Range option if you'd prefer to prescribe a range).

5. The column header will update to %Reps.

6. Enter your desired percentage for each workset (e.g., 70%).

7. Link the exercise to a test by clicking the test link area. Select the appropriate test (e.g., Push Up | Max Reps).

Estimating Reps for Your Athletes

After linking a test and setting your percentages, you can preview each athlete's calculated targets.

  1. Click the Estimate Reps button in the exercise detail modal.

  2. Select the athletes you want to estimate for (you can use Select All or pick individually).

  3. Click Next.

  4. Bridge displays each athlete's name, their tested reps, and the calculated estimated reps in green.

Each athlete gets a rep target that matches their actual capacity, with no manual math required.

What the Athlete Sees

On the athlete's mobile app, the workout displays the calculated rep target, not the percentage. The athlete sees:

Tips

  • Use Template Sets. If you frequently use the same percentage and set structure (e.g., 3 sets at 75%), save it as a template using the Save Sets as Template option at the bottom of the exercise detail modal.

  • Check the Load Progression View. In the builder, the Load Progression View lets you view a single day across multiple weeks of your phase, so you can see the prescribed percentages for each week at a glance.
