Overview

The Budget tool analyzes the performance of your Google Ads campaigns and provides budget allocation suggestions. These suggestions are tailored to optimize your campaigns based on your account's target metrics, such as Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) or Return on Ad Spend (ROAS). This article covers the prerequisites, how to review and apply budget suggestions, and tips for improving the tool's effectiveness.

In this article we will cover,

  • Prerequisites

  • Review and apply Budget suggestions

  • Improving the Effectiveness of Budget Allocation

Prerequisites

Before using the Budget tool, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  1. Review account performance target: Make sure your account targets are set correctly. These can be reviewed and changed under Account Settings → Account Details (Monthly Targets: Spend Target and CPA/ROAS Target). The Budget tool optimizes towards these targets, so make sure they are set up correctly before you review the suggestions.

  2. Total Account Budget: The Budget tool will never suggest increasing your overall budget; the total budget stays the same until you manually change it.

Review and Apply Budget Suggestions

Follow these steps to review and apply budget suggestions:

Step 1: Open the Budget tool

  • Go to Performance Tools → Budget in the left menu.

  • At the top you'll find the Budget Overview and the Spending Trend chart, showing your daily spend this month against your budget limit and the forecast.

Step 2: Review Budget Suggestions

  • Automatic Analysis: The tool regularly analyzes the performance of your campaigns based on your target metric (CPA, ROAS).

  • View Suggestions: In the Budget Suggestions table you'll see each campaign's monthly budget, average daily spend, daily budget and the suggested change — such as increasing the budget for high-performing campaigns and decreasing it for underperforming ones. Click Refresh to generate updated suggestions.

Step 3: Evaluate Suggestions

  • Assess Performance Data: Review the performance metrics behind the recommendations, such as conversions, click-through rates, and overall ROI.

  • Consider Campaign Goals: Ensure that the suggested budget allocations align with your individual campaign goals and overall account strategy.

Step 4: Apply Budget Suggestions

  • Apply Individually: If you agree with specific suggestions, apply the budget change for that campaign directly from the Actions column.

  • Apply All: To apply all the suggested budget changes at once, click the Apply All button. This will instantly update the budgets across all campaigns according to the tool's recommendations.

Review Budget changes in Activity history

You can always review the change log of budget changes that have been made via the history icon in the Budget Suggestions section.

Improving the Effectiveness of Budget Allocations

To get the most out of the Budget tool, consider the following strategies:

1. Regularly Review Campaign Performance

  • Weekly Reviews: Even though the tool provides suggestions regularly, it's important to manually review campaign performance. This ensures that the recommendations align with any changes in your marketing strategy or external factors.

  • Adjust Target Metrics: If your business objectives change, such as shifting focus from ROAS to CPA, update your targets under Account Settings to get relevant suggestions.

Conclusion

The Budget tool is a valuable way to optimize your Google Ads budget with data-driven suggestions tailored to your target metrics. By following the steps outlined in this guide and applying the recommended strategies, you can make informed decisions that enhance the effectiveness of your ad campaigns.
