Apple says I can only enrol as an Individual — what to do

For sole traders and self-employed studio owners: how to get an Organisation Apple Developer account.

Your branded app must be published under an Organisation Apple Developer account. An Individual account cannot publish an app under your business name, and cannot give bsport the access we need to publish it for you.

Apple often refuses the Organisation account, or creates an Individual account, when the business is not a registered company: sole trader, self-employed, auto-entrepreneur, autónomo, Einzelunternehmen, eenmanszaak, Partita IVA… This is common, and it can be solved.

Before you start

Apple will ask for all of these, so check you have them:

  • A DUNS number (name and address matching your documents exactly)

  • A live website on your own domain

  • A professional email address on the same domain as the website (for example website yourstudio.com → email hello@yourstudio.com)

  • A phone number

⚠️ Do not create a new Apple ID if you already have a personal one. Apple blocks duplicate accounts. Use your existing Apple ID.

⚡ Fastest option: call Apple

This often solves the problem in a single call. The order of the steps matters:

  1. Start the normal enrolment and choose Organization. Do this even if you expect an error. 👉 How to create an Organisational Apple Developer Account

  2. Let the error message appear. This is what flags your case in Apple's system.

  3. Only now, call Apple Developer Support via developer.apple.com/contact → Membership and Account → Phone.

  4. Answer Apple's security questions (the business owner must be on the call).

  5. Apple sends you an email to continue your enrolment as an Organisation.

💡 If you call before trying to enrol, Apple will ask you to try first and call back.

💡 You are connected to an agent from the country where your Apple ID was created.

💡 The phone option is not always offered (it depends on how busy Apple is). If you don't see it, try again later.

If the phone option is not available

  1. Contact Apple Developer Support by email from the same page and ask for an account type migration from Individual to Organization.

  2. Apple replies with a link. Click it and fill in the form: legal entity name, DUNS number, website, professional email and phone number.

  3. Apple reviews the request. This can take up to about 4 weeks.

Once your account is an Organisation

  1. Check it: on your Apple Developer account home page, the Membership section shows "Organization".

  2. Tell us in your branded app conversation so we can continue.

Your Android app setup is not affected and can continue in parallel.
