What happens if someone in my group doesn't pay?

This article covers the process, impact, and options if a group member fails to pay.

Buenro’s group booking system only charges users once everyone has committed. But what happens when someone doesn’t complete their payment?

1. Before Booking Confirmation

When you join a group, your card is authorised (not charged). If someone in the group doesn’t finish their part:

  • The booking remains pending

  • No one is charged

  • The group has up to 7 days to complete all payments

If payments aren’t completed within 7 days, all holds are released and the booking is automatically cancelled.

2. What Happens to the Person Who Doesn’t Pay?

  • No pay, no spot: A spot is only held once payment is authorised.

  • They’ll be alerted: Email and in-app reminders are sent if payment isn’t completed.

  • Can rejoin: If space remains, they can rejoin—with Curator approval

3. What Can the Group Do?

If someone drops out:

  • The Curator (or others, depending on group settings) can invite replacements

  • New joiners will trigger a fresh authorisation process

The group can continue forming as long as it’s within the 7-day window.

4. What If It’s the Last Person Holding Things Up?

If everyone else has completed payment and only one spot is left:

  • The group remains pending until that final spot is claimed and paid

  • Buenro will send reminders to the pending user

  • You can share the invite link with others to help fill the spot

5. What If the Curator Doesn’t Pay?

If the Curator doesn’t complete their payment:

  • The group won’t confirm

  • Other group members have 24 hours to accept the Curator role (Feature Coming Soon)

  • If no one steps up, the booking is cancelled and all payment holds are released
