How do group/split payments work?

Here’s how group/split payments work from start to finish.

On Buenro, bookings are made by groups — not individuals. This means payments are shared, coordinated, and only charged when the full group is ready. This system is designed to support fairness, flexibility, and transparency.

1. What Is a Group Payment?

A group payment is a combined contribution from all participants in a group booking. Each user pays their portion (or someone else’s, like a +1) to cover the full cost of the stay.

Your card is not charged immediately — instead, it’s authorised (a temporary hold is placed) until the group is complete.

2. Who Pays What?

Every group member:

  • Pays their individual share of the total booking cost (room rate + Buenro fee + taxes)

  • Can be responsible for a +1’s cost, if invited

The Curator doesn’t pay extra but is responsible for ensuring that everyone pays and the group is completed on time.

3. When Are Payments Processed?

There are two phases:

  • Payment Authorization: When you join the group, a hold is placed on your card (but no money is taken yet).

  • Payment Capture: Once the group is full and the booking is confirmed, your card is charged.

If the group doesn’t fill, the hold expires and no charge is made.

4. Can Someone Else Pay for Me?

If you're invited as a +1, the Inviter takes financial responsibility but they are not charged extra.

As a +1, you just need to accept the invite and follow the group rules — you won’t be charged..

5. What If Someone Doesn’t Pay?

If a group member fails to complete their payment:

  • The booking may not be confirmed

  • Their spot may be removed to make room for another guest

  • The group will be notified and can invite a replacement

No one is charged until the group is confirmed.

6. Can I Pay in Installments?

No. Buenro does not currently support partial or scheduled payments. Your card must be ready with the full amount when the group is confirmed.
