Why do you need my personal information?

Here's why we ask for personal information to use the CaptionCall app

Updated over a year ago

CaptionCall is provided at no cost for qualified users with hearing loss that necessitates the use of captioning. We are able to offer CaptionCall because we are part of a federally administered fund called the Internet Protocol Captioned Telephone Service (IP CTS) program, whose mandate is to ensure functionally-equivalent phone service for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

As part of the requirements of the IP CTS program, we need to validate our users. This is the reason we ask for your registration information.

FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund.
