Updated over a year ago

If you don't already have a CaptionCall Mobile account, you can create one directly from the app. This article will guide you through the process of creating an account step-by-step.

Steps to Create an Account

1. Launch the CaptionCall app then tap Create an Account.

2. Tap E-Signature and tap I Accept for each agreement in order to proceed.

3. Tap All Done!

4. Enter your cell phone number then tap Send Code.

5. You will receive a text message with a 6-digit verification code. Enter the verification code within 30 seconds.

Note: If you're having trouble receiving the text message, tap the Edit button next to your phone number and choose to resend the verification code via phone call. You will receive an automated call that will read the verification code to you.

6. Enter your email address and create a password. The password must have at least 8 characters, contain at least one number, and contain at least one uppercase letter. Tap Continue.

7. Enter your personal information as it appears on your government ID. Ensure you entered your information correctly, false information may result in account suspension. Tap Confirm.

Why do we ask for this information?

CaptionCall is part of a federal program that provides captioned telephone service to individuals with hearing loss. We are required by law to collect this information in order to verify the authenticity of our users. This information is never used for any other purpose. Visit our FAQ article here: Why do you need my personal information?

8. Enter your home address. This will be the destination for emergency responders in the event that you dial for emergency services. Tap Continue.

9. Choose an area code for the CaptionCall number that will be given to you. This area code does not have to match your cell phone's area code. You will have the option to use your usual cell phone number for captioned calls once you finish creating your account. Tap Use Selected Area Code.

Note: Not all area codes are always available. In the event your desired area code is unavailable, please choose a different area code for your CaptionCall number.

If you receive a verification error while creating an account, it may be due to an active VPN. Please temporarily disable your VPN and try again.

10. Success! Your account has been created and you can now start exploring the app. Tap Start Calling.

Getting Set Up for the First Time

Now that you have created an account, here are some bonus steps to help you get started.

1. Allow permission for CaptionCall to access your microphone and make phone calls. Tap Get Started.

Note: The microphone and phone access permissions are necessary for the CaptionCall Mobile app to work properly.

2. Take a quick tutorial that will guide you through the different sections of the app.

3. Access your CaptionCall voicemail system to record a personal voicemailbox greeting. In the CaptionCall dialer, call *97 then follow the prompts to set up your voicemail system for the first time.

4. Locate your CaptionCall number under your name in the side menu. Open the side menu by tapping on the 3 horizontal lines at the top left of the screen.

Calls made with the CaptionCall app will use your CaptionCall number. Any call with your CaptionCall number will be a captioned call.

You also have the option to continue using your usual cell phone number if you prefer not to use the CaptionCall number.

You can do this by setting up call forwarding and caller ID. If you would like to learn more about call forwarding and caller ID, jump to our help articles here:
