How to Set Up VIP Tiers
The VIP program lets you create tiers that reward your most loyal customers with exclusive perks and status. As customers hit milestones, they automatically move up through your tiers.
Navigate to Program → VIP to get started. The VIP status badge at the top reflects your current entry criteria (e.g. "Spending Based" when Entry Criteria is set to Amount spent).
Step 1: Activate the VIP Program
At the top of the VIP tab, you may see a yellow banner:
"Your VIP program is currently disabled. Your program needs to be activated before customers can start using it."
Click "Activate program" (or toggle the program ON) to enable it. Note: if you've updated milestones or the program start date, customers may be reassigned to new tiers.
Step 2: Create Your VIP Tiers
Click "Add tiers" to start building your tier structure. For example, you might set up Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers — each with its own entry requirements and rewards. Each tier in the list shows its name, reward status, and required points, plus edit and delete icons.
Step 3: Choose How Customers Achieve VIP Status
Under "A Customer Achieves VIP Tier Based On", choose your qualifying metric:
Points earned — Most common. Customers progress as they accumulate loyalty points.
Amount spent — Tier progression based on total spend in your store.
No. of products purchased — Coming soon.
No. of orders placed — Coming soon.
How VIP Progress is Calculated
When Entry Criteria is set to Points earned, VIP tier progress is based on a customer's current points balance — not their lifetime earned points. This means that if a customer redeems points, their balance decreases and their VIP progress may change accordingly.
💡 Tip: If you want customers to keep their tier status even after redeeming points, set the Entry Criteria to Amount Spent instead of Points Earned.
Step 4: Set the Program Start Date
Under VIP Tier Starting Date, set the date from which customer activity counts towards VIP status.
The start date must be between today's date and the date you created your Casa account.
If you want all historical activity to count, set this as far back as your account creation date.
Step 5: Configure Tier Reset Settings
Choose how long a customer has to achieve (or maintain) a VIP tier:
Their lifetime as a reward member — Customers keep their tier forever based on lifetime activity. Points are never reset.
One calendar year — Tier progress resets at the start of each year.
Number of years — Set a custom rolling window (e.g. every 2 years).
Only Reward the Highest Achieved Tier
If a customer jumps multiple tiers at once (e.g. goes straight from Bronze to Gold), you can choose whether they receive rewards from each tier they passed through, or just the highest one.
Checked: Only Gold rewards are given — intermediate tier rewards (Silver) are skipped.
Unchecked (Default): Rewards from all tiers reached are issued.
⚠️ This toggle cannot be changed while the VIP program is active. Deactivate the program first to modify this setting.
Step 6: Enable Metafield Sync (Optional)
Casa Loyalty can sync your customer VIP tier names to a Shopify customer metafield at $app:casa.vip_tier_name. This lets you use tier data in Shopify flows, email apps, and more. Click "Enable Sync" to activate this — status shows as "Not synced" until enabled, and you can trigger an immediate sync with "Sync Now".
Deleting a VIP Tier
When you delete a VIP tier, customers in that tier are automatically reassigned:
If a lower tier exists, customers are moved down to it.
If no lower tier exists, customers are removed from the VIP program entirely.
Review your tier structure carefully before deleting to avoid unexpected customer reassignments.
