How Do VIP Tiers Reset?

VIP tier resets control how long a customer has to achieve (or maintain) a VIP tier before the clock restarts. You can configure this in Program → VIP → VIP Tiers Reset Settings.

The Three Reset Options

1. Lifetime as a Reward Member (Default)

Customers are evaluated based on their total activity since joining your loyalty program. There is no reset — once a customer reaches a tier, they keep it for life (based on their accumulated points/spend/orders).

  • ✅ Great for rewarding long-term loyalty

  • ✅ No risk of disappointing customers by "taking away" their tier

  • ⚠️ Customers who were once active but are now lapsed may retain high tiers indefinitely

2. One Calendar Year

Tier progress is evaluated within each calendar year (Jan 1 – Dec 31). At the start of each new year, all customers return to the base tier and must re-qualify.

  • ✅ Creates annual motivation to stay engaged

  • ✅ Naturally re-engages lapsed customers

  • ⚠️ Customers may feel demoted at the start of each year — communicate this clearly

3. Number of Years

You set a custom rolling window — for example, every 2 years. Tier progress is evaluated over that rolling period.

  • ✅ More flexibility than calendar year

  • ✅ Useful for slower-moving purchase categories

Tip: "Only Reward the Highest Achieved Tier"

Alongside reset settings, you can also control what happens when a customer jumps multiple tiers at once. If you check "Only reward the highest achieved tier", customers who skip intermediate tiers won't receive those tiers' rewards — only the highest one reached.
