Can a Customer Earn Points Without Creating an Account?

It depends on your settings.

Casa Loyalty gives you control over whether customers need to sign up before earning points. This is configured via the Earning Behaviour setting in Program → Points.

The Setting: "Customer must signup before earning points"

Under Earning Behaviour, you'll find a checkbox:

"Customer must signup before earning points"

If the box is CHECKED ✅

Customers must create a Shopify account and enrol in your loyalty program before they can earn any points. Guest orders will not accrue points.

  • Pros: Cleaner data, all points tied to verified customer accounts

  • Cons: Customers who check out as guests miss out — this can reduce participation

If the box is UNCHECKED ☐

Customers can earn points without creating an account. This is useful for stores with a large guest checkout base who still want to reward purchases.

  • Pros: Higher participation, rewards more customers

  • Cons: Points may be tied to email addresses without full account profiles

Recommendation

If growing your registered customer base is a priority, keep the box checked — this encourages account creation. If you want maximum loyalty participation across all buyers (including guests), uncheck it.
