How to Set Up Chalkboard & Achievements

Great news: your gym now has Chalkboard & Achievements! It gives your members a feed of real gym moments, a Trophy Case to show off everything they've earned, and recognition that shows up the minute they earn it.

This guide walks you through setting it up exactly the way you want. It takes about 15 minutes, and everything happens from one screen. You decide every badge, point value and perk, and there's zero extra work for your coaches, because it all runs on the check-ins and results your gym already tracks.

Quick start: set it up in nine steps

Everything lives in Organization → Achievements Setup. Changes on the Settings tab are saved all together when you click Save settings at the bottom, so make your choices, then save once.

  1. Pick your badges. Switch whole badge families, or single badges, on and off. (See "Badges: you choose what counts" below.)

  2. Set your Comeback and PR rules. Decide what counts as a comeback and which lifts earn PR badges.

  3. Review points and tiers. The defaults work well for most gyms, but you can adjust them. (See "Club points & tiers" below.)

  4. Add tier perks. Tell members what reaching Gold or Legend is worth at your gym.

  5. Tune the extras. Set up Monthly tiers, the New Member Quest, Class Legends (including which classes have a crown) and streak pauses.

  6. Create gym badges. Make your own badges, like "Dawn Patrol," with an optional prize.

  7. Set a Community Goal. This is one shared check-in target for the month. It's optional.

  8. Award past achievements. This gives long-time members the badges they've already earned, quietly and without a flood of notifications.

  9. Turn on the Chalkboard. When you're ready for the feed to go live, switch Chalkboard on, then let your coaches and members know.

The Chalkboard: your gym's feed of moments

The Chalkboard isn't a list of every logged score. It's just the moments worth a cheer: milestones, PRs, coach shout-outs, comebacks, first classes and anniversaries.

  • It becomes your members' home screen. Don't worry, the app still reopens wherever they left off.

  • On mobile, it's a Home tab, and the profile button glows when someone cheers or comments on a member's moment.

  • You can post your own updates and pin them to the top. If you've set a Community Goal, its progress bar sits up there too.

  • Members choose whether their own moments post, and you can hide anything that shouldn't be there.

You'll find the switch in Settings → Chalkboard. It's off until you turn it on. Badges and the Trophy Case work either way.

There are two more switches in that section:

  • Coaches can award coach badges (on by default)

  • Coaches can post, pin and hide (off by default)

The Trophy Case: every athlete's wall

Members open their Trophy Case from their profile button. It holds their Club tier and perk, their crew, every badge they've earned and the next badge within reach.

  • Earned badges glow. Locked badges show as an outline, and the next one up shows a progress ring.

  • Repeat badges stack into one, like "Comeback ×3."

  • PR badges show the actual result, like "315 lb" or "4:12."

  • A How points work button explains your gym's exact point values.

Celebrations: the moment it's earned

When a member earns a badge, they get a push notification and a full-screen reveal the next time they open the app or log a result. If they earn several badges at once, they stack into one reveal.

  • The reveal shows the badge's rarity and any prize you've attached.

  • With one tap, members can share it to the Chalkboard.

  • After you award past achievements, members see a single welcome summary, never a flood of pop-ups.

Badges: you choose what counts

In Settings → Badges, each badge family has its own switch, and each badge inside it has one too. A badge that's turned off is never awarded, earns no points and is hidden everywhere. If you turn one back on, members get any badges they already qualified for, quietly overnight.

Comeback rules

By default, a member earns the Comeback badge when they check in after 21+ days away, have at least 8 classes at your gym before the break, and haven't earned a Comeback in the last 60 days. You can change all three of these numbers under the Comeback switch.

Which PRs earn a badge

Choose one of these options:

  • Key lifts and benchmarks: Back Squat, Front Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Strict Press, Push Press, Power Clean, Clean, Clean & Jerk, Power Snatch, Fran, Grace, Isabel, Diane, Elizabeth, Helen, Cindy, Karen, Annie, Jackie, Murph, Nancy, Kelly, Fight Gone Bad

  • All movements

  • Custom: pick from your movement list and benchmark workouts

Club points & tiers: points for showing up

Every member climbs from Bronze to Legend by showing up and being recognized. Performance never earns points, and giving cheers or comments earns nothing, so there's nothing to game. You can edit every value in Settings → Club points & tiers, or click Reset to defaults to start fresh.

Good to know

  • Points never expire.

  • If you change point values, the new values apply from now on. Changes to tier thresholds apply immediately.

  • A member's tier shows while they're active at your gym.

  • Training Partner badges pay points once per milestone, not once per partner.

Club tier perks

In Settings → Club tier perks, write what each tier is worth at your gym, like "10% off the gym store" at Gold. Members see the perk on their tier card.

⚠️ Heads up: Perks aren't applied automatically. Nothing is charged or discounted by the system, so your staff will need to honor perks in person.

New Member Quest

The first 30 days decide whether a new member sticks around. The New Member Quest gives them five quick wins, plus the Rookie badge when they finish:

  1. Take their first class

  2. Take 3 classes in their first week

  3. Log a result

  4. Get a cheer

  5. Take 8 classes in 30 days

You can set both class targets (the first-week and 30-day numbers) yourself.

  • Coaches see "Quest 3/5" next to new members on the check-in roster, so they know who to welcome.

  • Unfinished quests close quietly after 30 days.

You'll find this in Settings → New Member Quest & Legends. It's on by default.

Crew & Legends: the people they train with

Members can see their top training partners and the class crowns within reach.

  • Training Partners: milestones for classes taken together. When a crew hits a milestone together, they get one shared Chalkboard post.

  • Class Legends: each recurring class on your schedule has one crown, held by whoever checked in to that class the most over the last 90 days (at least 12 times). One-off classes never have a crown. You can untick any class you don't want to award a crown (open gym, for example) under Classes that award crowns in Settings.

  • Members only see the current crown holder and their own gap, never a full ranking.

  • Members can turn partner tracking off. Open gym and any other excluded classes don't count toward partner milestones.

Coaches: shout-outs from the floor

Coaches can recognize members right from the Chalkboard. Here's how it works:

  1. The coach taps Shout out.

  2. They pick a member and a badge.

  3. They add a short message.

The member gets a push notification and their celebration.

  • Coaches can award Grit, Best Form, Most Improved and Teammate, plus any gym badge you've marked as coach-awardable.

  • Coaches can also tap Give a badge on any member's moment to recognize them on the spot.

  • Optionally, the shout-out can post to the Chalkboard and show on the gym TV that night.

  • If the Chalkboard is turned off, the Shout out button moves to the Trophy Case page.

  • You can turn this off for coaches in Settings → Chalkboard. Admins can always award badges.

More tools: goals, prizes and insight

Community Goal

Set one shared check-in target for the month on the Community goal tab. We suggest last month's total plus 5%. A progress bar sits at the top of the Chalkboard and on the TV. If your gym hits the goal, everyone who showed up that month gets the Community badge, plus any reward you add.

Gym badges

On the Gym badges tab, you can create up to 100 badges of your own. Give each one a name, icon, color and rarity. You can award it by hand, or automatically when a member reaches a certain class count. Want to add a prize, like a T-shirt? You can do that too.

Rewards owed

Every prize a member earns lands on the Rewards owed tab. When your front desk hands it over, they click Mark given, so nothing gets forgotten.

Monthly tiers

Monthly tiers are off by default. When you turn them on, members earn Iron, Bronze, Silver or Gold each month based on their class count (5, 10, 15 and 20 classes unless you change them). Classes are counted the same way as Committed Club.

Engagement tab

On your admin dashboard, the Engagement tab shows members by tier, who's about to hit a milestone this week, recent comebacks, training partners at risk, quest completion and Chalkboard activity. It's a great place to plan your shout-outs.

TV slide

Your TV leaderboard adds a "This week at the gym" slide with milestones, shout-outs, new Legends and the Community Goal. Members who've opted out of posting won't appear.

Monthly Recap

On the 1st of every month, each member who trained the month before gets a recap showing their classes, streak, top PR, badges, cheers and top training partner. They can share it to the Chalkboard or save it as an image for Instagram.

It's free marketing for your gym every month, with nothing for you to do.

Before you go live: award past achievements

Once your badge choices are set, click Award past achievements at the bottom of the Settings tab. Long-time members get the badges, PRs and tier they've already earned, with no push notifications and no Chalkboard posts. Each member sees one welcome summary the next time they open the app.

📝 Note: If you see a message saying members are remaining, click Award past achievements again until it's finished. Don't worry, running it more than once never doubles anything.

FAQ

My members can't see anything new.

They need the latest version of the Chalk It Pro app. Ask them to update the app, then sign out and back in. The Trophy Case appears in the profile menu, and the Chalkboard appears once you turn it on.

Can I use badges without the Chalkboard feed?

Yes! Just leave the Chalkboard off. Badges, points, the Trophy Case and celebrations all still work.

A member has way too many badges.

Turn off the family or the specific badges in Settings → Badges. They disappear right away. Nothing is deleted, so you can bring them back any time.

I changed point values. Why didn't old points change?

New point values apply from now on, and points members already earned stay as they are. Tier thresholds apply immediately, because tiers are based on lifetime points.

A member doesn't want to be on the Chalkboard.

In their Trophy Case privacy settings, they can stop their moments from posting and turn off partner tracking. Coach shout-outs they receive can still post if the coach chooses to share them.

Something was posted that shouldn't be there.

Open the post's menu and hide it. Admins can always hide posts, and coaches can too if you allow it in Settings → Chalkboard.

Will members on an old app version have problems?

No. Older versions just won't show the new screens.

Who do I contact with feedback?

You're part of the beta, so tell us everything: what your members love, what confuses them and what you'd change. Reach out to your Chalk It Pro contact any time.

You're all set! Enjoy celebrating your members. 🎉
