What If I Don't See My Payee Listed?
To use Bill Pay, your payee must be officially registered with Canadian banks as a recognized payee. This setup is managed entirely by the banks — not by Chexy — and can sometimes be a lengthy process for businesses to complete.
That's why Bill Pay is most commonly accepted by large property management companies, utility providers, and other major institutions. Unfortunately, we have no way to add or modify payees on our end. If a business isn't showing up, it likely hasn't been added to the banking network as a Bill Pay-compatible payee.
If your payee isn't listed, please double-check that they accept Bill Pay. If they don't, feel free to explore our other delivery methods — Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) or Interac e-Transfer.
I Confirmed My Payee Accepts Bill Pay, But I Still Can't Find Them
If your payee accepts Bill Pay but isn't appearing in our dropdown, they may be listed under a slightly different name. This is one of the trickier parts of Bill Pay — the same company can appear under different names depending on the bank, and unfortunately, we don't have visibility into how payees are listed on our end.
The best next step is to contact your payee directly and ask if they're listed under an alternate name. You can also check their website, as many companies have a "How to Pay Your Bill" page with specific instructions.
⚠️ Important: Make sure you select the correct payee before proceeding — choosing the wrong one could result in your payment being applied incorrectly or delayed.
It's Asking for the Wrong Number of Digits
If the system is asking for more or fewer digits than what appears on your bill, here are a few things to check:
Double-check the payee name you selected — some large companies have separate listings depending on the type of bill. For example, Bell Canada has different listings for internet, mobility, and residential services. Learn more here.
Your payee may require a specific format — some utility companies ask you to combine two numbers from your bill (such as a customer number and account number) to create the full account number. Check their website or "How to Pay" section for instructions.
Try verifying the payee in a different banking app — since each bank has a slightly different list, searching for the same payee in another bank's Bill Pay system can help you compare. If something looks different from what you're seeing in Chexy, let us know — it may help us identify if something needs to be fixed on our end.
Common Canadian Providers
These providers are supported but may appear under slightly different names in the dropdown:
Hydro One — Search "Hydro One" or "Hydro One Networks"
BC Hydro — Search "BC Hydro"
Enbridge — Search "Enbridge Gas" or "Enbridge Gas Distribution"
TELUS — Search "Telus Mobility" or "Telus Communications" depending on your service
Rogers — Has separate listings for internet, cable, and wireless — make sure you select the right one
Bell — Has multiple listings by province and service type. See our Bell Canada Bill Pay Troubleshooting guide for a full breakdown.
⚠️ Always confirm your account number format on your bill or your provider's website before submitting.
