Follow along with the video above to learn about downloading the Civic Champs app and creating your profile.
The Civic Champs app allows you to easily log your hours, sign up for events, and more. It also helps your nonprofits with their recordkeeping and other organizational tasks.
To begin, download the Civic Champs app onto your smartphone. Our free app is available on both Android and Apple devices and can be found in your phone's App Store. The following QR code will take you to our page in the App Store:
When you download the app, you will be taken to this screen:
If you already have a Civic Champs account, perhaps from being added by an administrator or making one on the computer, select Login to access that account. If you have forgotten your password, you can choose Forgot Password to begin the process of resetting your password. Once you have logged in, you can edit parts of your profile to your liking.
If you have never created a Civic Champs account, select Create Account. You can either sign up using your mobile phone number or email. Enter your first and last name, your date of birth, and then your mobile phone number or email.
Set a password for your account and finish creating your account by clicking Create Account at the bottom of the screen.
You will then receive a verification code sent to either your phone or email, depending on which was initially provided. Enter the code and choose Verify Account to verify your information. If you do not receive the code within 5 or so minutes, select Resend Code to have another code sent to you. You may also select Cancel if, for whatever reason, you need to return to the previous page.
The next two screens briefly show how you can check in to volunteer opportunities and track the total amount of hours you have volunteered.
Next, you will be prompted to allow various permissions on your phone to ensure that the app works as smoothly as possible.
First, the app will ask for access to your phone's location. Civic Champs does not track or record your location. We only use your location so that we can alert you when you are near a volunteer opportunity and make your check-in and check-out process as simple as possible.
The app works best when location permissions are turned on always, but if it makes you most comfortable, you can choose to only allow using location when using the app. Then, when you are near volunteer events, you can open the app and easily check-in and check-out.
The app will then ask for permission to access your phone's motion. This is only to help locate events and reduce the effect the app has on your battery. We do not keep records of your motion.
Finally, the app will request the permission to send notifications to you. The notifications you will receive will (1) alert you when you are near a volunteer opportunity, asking if you are there to check in, and/or (2) remind you that a volunteer event you have registered for is happening soon.
Once you have set all the permissions you up, you are finished! Your Civic Champs app is set up and ready to use.
