In early 2025, the NSW Department of Education introduced a new approach to mandatory training for teachers. Even though these changes were implemented from late last year in preparation for 2025, it’s important to understand what was introduced, how it impacts your verification status on ClassCover, and what it means for keeping your eligibility to teach in NSW schools.
December 2024 Training Freeze
In preparation for the changes, there was a mandatory training freeze from 9 to 20 December 2024.
During this period, mandatory training modules in MyPL were not available.
Casual teachers could still complete other professional learning modules.
All mandatory training due in November and December 2024 needed to be completed by Friday, 6 December 2024 to remain eligible for the new training process starting in 2025.
More information on the December 2024 Freeze Period can be found here.

The Annual Competency Check – Introduced Term 1 2025
From Term 1 2025, separate refresher modules were replaced with the Annual Competency Check (ACC):
What it is: A single, role-specific module designed to only take 1 hour to complete each year.
Why it matters: It streamlines the process, making it faster and easier for teachers to stay compliant.
Eligibility: Only teachers who had completed all mandatory training by 6 December 2024 could access the ACC in 2025.
Teachers who missed the deadline and still had an orange tick needed to complete individual modules instead, increasing their workload.
Understanding Your Verification Tick on ClassCover
Your tick status on ClassCover helps schools know if you are fully eligible to teach:
Green tick – Fully verified: All mandatory training is completed and matched in the NSW Department of Education’s system.
Orange tick – Partially verified: One or more mandatory modules are incomplete or overdue.
