ClassCover is committed to providing a service that meets your needs while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our platform. Each year, we send over 4.7 million SMS messages, with a single booking request requiring multiple messages per person. The cost of supporting and maintaining this service has grown exponentially, reaching a level that is no longer sustainable without making adjustments
Central to our values as a platform and business is a commitment to always provide equitable access to booking notifications while addressing the challenge of ballooning costs. After careful consideration, we’ve made some changes and as a result we are now providing more alert types than before.
What’s the same, what’s changed and why
Our data indicates that 63.5% of casual staff users favour push notifications as their primary method for receiving alerts, whereas 36.5% choose SMS. Our goal is to balance the rising costs with your preferences, making sure that you still receive your booking requests in a way that works for you.
Multiple Free Notification Options with Free SMS Back up
For those who prefer push notifications as the primary alert method, you can continue without any disruptions or fees and can accept and decline bookings via the app for free.
The addition of more notifications
We’ve added additional alerts including a default email alert (adjustable in settings) for each booking and a free SMS as a backup. This is a brief SMS that includes a direct link to accept or decline bookings via the web app—no login required. Continuing to use push notifications with the default email and free backup SMS remains 100% free.
Optional Low-Cost SMS Subscription to Continue Use of SMS
If you’d like to continue receiving SMS notifications as your primary alert, with the option to respond to booking requests by replying with Y or N, ClassCover has introduced a small monthly fee of $4.99 p/m. In addition to SMS, you can opt in to be notified by Push Notification simultaneously.
This means that if you prefer, you can be notified in more than one way every time you’re sent a booking request.
The SMS subscription is now live. All new sign ups will receive 30 days free.
How to subscribe to the SMS subscription via your ClassCover App
To activate the SMS subscription, update your ClassCover app to the latest version and toggle on SMS by following these steps:
Click on the hamburger menu in the top right corner
Click on Account & Settings
Go to Booking notifications
Go to SMS and toggle on
Follow the prompts to subscribe
Without updating, SMS will no longer be the default alert type, and you’ll automatically be moved to the free plan with push notifications as your primary alert.
To cancel, simply do so in Google Play Store for Android or settings > subscriptions if you are an iOS user.
Flexible subscription
You can easily activate or deactivate the SMS subscription as your work situation changes, whether you're moving in and out of long-term blocks or adjusting to different employment arrangements. There are no commitments or contracts. Try different notification options and determine the approach that suits you best. Change or cancel paid SMS at any time.
What if I don't want to pay?
Don't worry! There's no reduction of service. You will continue to receive booking requests via push notification and now an additional default alert via email. As a fail safe, we have also introduced a free SMS alert as a back up.
What if you’re not using the app?
If you choose not to use the ClassCover app, you will still receive booking notifications through email and a free, shortened SMS alert that communicates the most important details of a booking request without exceeding one SMS (160 characters). Both options will direct you to a web page, where you can respond quickly without needing to log in.
While opting out of the app means you won’t be able to subscribe to the low-cost SMS service or receive push notifications, rest assured, you’re still fully covered with these alternative notifications.

No. The introduction of a fee for SMS notifications does not create an advantage for users who opt for this service. If however, you live in a rural area or happen to live in a network blackspot, meaning you have trouble accessing the internet through your phone on 4G / 5G resulting in poor internet connectivity, please get in touch with support for assistance.
