Need to quickly communicate with the casuals on your list – like a term-start reminder, roster change or policy update? The Broadcasted Messages feature in ClassCover makes it easy to send announcements, updates, or reminders to casuals on your school’s list directly from the platform.
Why Use Broadcast Messages?
Save time: No need to export emails and mess around with your inbox.
Stay organised: Reach all casuals or a specific group with the right message.
Improve engagement: Friendly reminders help casuals stay active and responsive.
How to Send a Broadcast Message (Desktop Only)
Navigate to 'My List' Page.
In the ClassCover desktop version, go to your ‘My List' page, where you’ll see the list of casuals connected to your school.
Filter Casuals (Optional)
You can filter the casuals by:
Name
Role Type
Teaching Level
Subjects / Tags
Active / Inactive status
Distance to School
Use these filters to create a segmented group of casuals that you want to message.
Select Casuals
After filtering (if necessary), select the casuals you want to send a message to. You can choose to select all casuals or just the ones you’ve filtered.
Click 'Message'
Once you've selected your group, click on the ‘Message’ button.
Type Your Message
Enter your message in the provided text box. You have 280 characters to write your message, and you can also include a supporting link if necessary (e.g., to direct casuals to a page for more information or to update their availability).
Click Send
Once your message is ready, click ‘Send’ to send it to all selected casuals. If you want to send the message to all casuals on your list, simply tick the ‘Select All’ box before clicking ‘Send’.
Key Features:
Targeted Messaging: Filter your recipient list by name, star rating, active/inactive status, tags, or teaching levels to send the message to everyone, a select group, or an individual via My List then bulk select > send message.
Character Limit: Messages have a 280-character limit, keeping them short and to the point – perfect for quick announcements.
Include Links: Need to provide more information? You can include a link in the message. This could be to a Google Drive file, Microsoft Form, school website update, or any external resource.
Message Templates Available: Struggling to keep messages concise? We’ve created handy templates to help you craft clear, effective messages. Check out our message templates.
Best Use Cases for Broadcast Messaging
Here are a few examples of how schools can use this feature effectively:
Check Availability: Message casuals at the beginning of the term to check their availability for upcoming shifts.
Broadcast Announcements: Send school-wide updates or urgent messages (e.g., policy changes, event reminders).
Availability Reminders: Ask casuals to update their availability to ensure bookings are accurate.
General Reminders: Send reminders for tasks such as completing training, upcoming school events, etc.
Keep Your List Active and Engaged
If some casuals haven’t responded or updated their availability, you can follow up with a second message or segment your audience using Smart Groups. For those who remain inactive, consider sending a nudge or cleaning up your list to keep your pool of available casuals fresh and responsive.
