Maintaining a healthy list of casuals is essential for successful bookings on ClassCover. Schools with inactive or unresponsive staff often face higher rates of unfulfilled bookings. Here’s how to keep your list full of active casuals.
Quickly Check Your List Health
Navigate to your My List page under the Manage tab to access the List Health Checker.
If your list is marked as healthy, no further action is needed. If it’s marked as unhealthy, you likely have a high number of inactive casuals on your list. Refer to our article on list cleaning for detailed steps to fix it.
How to Check a Casual’s Last Activity
Filter Inactive Profiles or Use 'Hide Inactive':
Casuals are marked inactive if they haven’t logged in, responded to job requests, or updated their availability for 90 days.
You can filter by inactive users from My List or use the ‘Hide Inactive’ option to prevent these casuals from showing in your list.
View 'Active' Time:
You can see when a casual was last active on their profile or when previewing their details in the My List and Find New pages.
What You Can Do with Inactive and Unresponsive Casuals
Send Them a Nudge
The Nudge feature on ClassCover allows schools to gently prompt casuals who haven’t responded to recent booking requests. If a casual hasn’t accepted, declined, or opened a booking request, you’ll see the option to send them a Nudge – a quick reminder sent via push notification and email to encourage them to take action. The message alerts them that your school is trying to engage them for bookings and encourages them to log in to update their availability or switch off bookings if they’re no longer available (which will hide them from your list).
It’s a useful way to re-engage casuals who may have missed the initial request without having to resend the booking manually.
To Send a Nudge:
Filter a group of inactive casuals using the drop-down options and bulk select then click Nudge
You can also do this individually by selecting just one casual then clicking Nudge
Send Them a Message
In addition to using the Nudge feature, schools can take further steps to manage inactive casuals on their list. One option is to send them a direct message through ClassCover. This allows you to personalise your communication – asking if they’re still available for bookings, reminding them to update their availability, or advising them to switch off bookings if they’re no longer working casually. You can also regularly review your list and clean up any inactive casuals who haven’t logged in or responded in an extended period, ensuring your list stays fresh and active.
Remove or Hide Inactive Casuals from Your List
You can manage inactive casuals by either removing them from your list entirely or marking them with grey stars, which hides them from your booking shortlist. Grey stars are best used when you expect the casual may return in the future, allowing you to keep them on your list without actively sending booking requests.
