Create a rule

Create and configure a rule: choose a type, set decision behavior, complete the configuration

This article shows you how to create a moderation rule - from choosing a rule type to configuring how strict it should be. Once saved, a rule can be used in one-time runs, added to policies, and enforced by automations.

When to use this

Create a rule whenever you have a standard you want checked automatically: a quality bar, a brand guideline, a legal requirement, or anything you can describe about your content.

Steps

  1. Go to Rules and select Create Rule.

  2. In the Create a New Rule dialog, choose how to begin:

    • Start from scratch - pick one of the available rule types (for example, Image Quality, Text Detection, or AI Content Detection).

    • Or choose a quick starter - pick a ready-made rule with sensible settings you can adjust.

Tip: Need a check that doesn't exist as a rule type? Use AI Content Detection and describe what should or shouldn't appear in the image in your own words.

  3. Fill in the rule details:

    • Rule Name (required) - a descriptive name, for example "Top-left logo for branded content."

    • Description (required) - explain when this rule should be used and what it enforces.

  4. Set the Decision Behavior:

    • Choose a Review threshold:

      • Low - fewer assets sent to review - more automatic decisions

      • Balanced - the default mix

      • High - more assets sent to review

      • or Custom - set the reject and approve thresholds independently on a scale of 0–100. Assets scoring below your reject threshold are rejected automatically, assets above your approve threshold are approved automatically, and everything in between is sent to review.

    • Add a Rejection reason - a message shown when assets are rejected.

Tip: Write rejection reasons your reviewers will understand at a glance - they appear in the results and can be saved to asset metadata.

  5. Complete the Configuration section.
The fields here depend on the rule type. See "Image rule types and how to use them" and "Video rule types and how to use them" for every field explained.

  6. Click Save.

What happens next

  • The rule appears on the Rules page with the status Active, ready to use.

  • You can apply it right away in a one-time run, or add it to a policy: open the rule's row menu and select Add to policy, then pick an existing policy or create a new one.

  • The Used In column shows where the rule is applied as you start using it.

Tips:

  • Test new rules with a one-time run on a small batch before adding them to policies or automations - it's the quickest way to see whether the strictness feels right.

  • If a rule sends too much to review, lower the review threshold; if it makes automatic decisions you disagree with, raise it.
