Once you've created a policy, you can apply it anywhere moderation runs: one-time runs and ongoing automations. This article explains how to select a policy, what happens when it's applied, and how changes to a policy affect existing work.
When to use this
Use a policy instead of hand-picking rules whenever you want repeatable, consistent moderation - especially for recurring reviews and automations.
Select a policy in a run
Start a run as usual: Run Moderation > One-time moderation (or Ongoing moderation for an automation).
In the Select Rules step, switch from choosing individual rules to choosing policies.
Pick the policy (or policies) to apply. Each policy card shows its name and description.
Continue through the wizard and confirm.
What happens when a policy is applied
Every asset in the run is checked against all the rules in the policy.
An asset is Approved only if it passes every rule. One clear failure makes it Rejected; uncertain results send it to Needs review.
On the results page, you can filter results by each individual rule, so you can still see exactly which check in the policy was triggered.
On Moderation Runs, the run's row lists the rules that were applied.
Editing a policy that's in use
Finished runs don't change. Results always reflect the rules as they were when the run happened.
Running automations are restarted. When you save changes to a policy that active automations use, the app lists them and asks to stop and restart them so your changes take effect. Restarted automations process only new assets going forward.
Future runs use the latest version. Any run started after the edit uses the updated policy.
Deleting a policy that's in use
When you delete a policy, the app shows which automations depend on it. Those automations are stopped and restarted without the policy. If nothing would remain to moderate, they're stopped permanently. Finished runs and their results are kept.
Tip: After editing a policy used by automations, glance at Activity > Automations to confirm they restarted and are Running.
