Understanding the Development Page - Quick Overview

Understand how your client is progressing over time.

Written by Malene Malmkjær

The Development page is the command center for a client's progress. It is where you open their latest check-in, read what they wrote, and see how every tracked metric is progressing over time.

From here you can see:

1. The latest Check-ins:

At the very top is the client's most recent check-in. Once you have reviewed it, click Mark as read to clear it from your unread count.

2. Rating Cards:

These are the smiley and star based questions from your check-in form, either the standard ones or questions you have built yourself. Each card shows the latest score and how it changed since the last check-in, so you can spot a dip at a glance.

3. Client Responses:

The client's written answers to the open questions in the check-in, for example what challenges they faced that week and what wins they want to share.

4. Goals progress:

Here you can see total movement toward the client's goal, with their starting weight, current weight, and goal weight.

5. Body progress:

Weight, circumference and every other measurement, shown over time.

Choose your layout
Use the Layout buttons to show the graphs in one of four ways:

  • Full width

  • Two columns

  • Two on top, one big below

  • One big with two beside it (default)

The default shows weight on the left, total circumference top right and body fat % bottom right. Each graph has a dropdown, so you can switch what it shows. Your layout is remembered for every client.

Reading the graph

  • The line is the weekly average

  • The dots are each individual weigh-in

  • The dashed line is the client’s goal

  • At the top you see the latest value, the change since the last entry and the change in the selected period

Pick the period with 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 12 months or your own dates. The Values toggle hides the actual numbers and shows only the changes.

The table
Below the graphs, every measurement sits on a timeline. You can:

  • switch between Every entry and Total change since the start

  • click a row to show it in the graph

  • click a value and choose Edit value or Delete value

  • use the filter to choose which measurements are shown

6. Recent Sessions & Activities:

A log of everything your client has completed, newest first. This includes workouts from their program and activities like runs or walks, whether they were logged manually or synced from a watch.

Delete a session: If a client logged a session by mistake, or logged the same one twice, click the three dots (⋯) at the end of the row and choose Delete.

Measurements can come from three sources:

  1. Check-in forms. When your client submits a check-in that includes measurements, they are logged automatically.

  2. Manual input from you. You can add measurements directly on the Development page at any time, including backdated entries.

  3. The client logging in the app. Clients can log measurements themselves without waiting for a check-in, either from their Home page or from Profile → Add Measurement.

All three land in the same place - the development page. A value logged by your client appears in the chart exactly like one you entered yourself, so if a measurement shows up that you did not add and no check-in produced, your client logged it directly.

Note that the current weight in the Goals progress card at the top of the Development page updates from check-ins. A weight your client logs directly in the app (outside a check-in) shows in the Weight chart right away, but the card updates at their next check-in.

Setting Client Goals

Most of this information is automatically collected from the client's onboarding form. However, you can always review and update these values manually if anything was entered incorrectly or if the client's situation changes over time.

To make sure Coachway accurately can calculate BMR, TDEE, PAL, and the recommended daily calorie intake, we recommend including the relevant Smart Fields in your onboarding form. This allows the system to collect the necessary information, such as weight, activity levels, training experience, and workout location, directly from the client during onboarding.

Each client has a goal type that you set from their profile. Open the client's Info (top-right corner) and scroll to Activity & Dietary Information. Here you define:

  • Initial Weight and Goal Weight

  • Goal Type: Weight Loss, Muscle Gain, or Habits

  • Activity Level Work and Activity Level Exercise

  • Exercise Experience: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

  • Workout Location: Home, Gym, Outdoor.

Based on these settings, Coachway automatically calculates BMR, TDEE, PAL, and a Recommended daily calorie intake for the client. These values update when you change the activity levels or weight.

Good to know: The Recommended daily calorie intake is based on the client's weight and activity levels. It does not take the length of the coaching period into account. If you want the client to lose a specific amount within a set time, set the calorie target on the meal plan yourself, based on the deficit you want.

You can also set a starting weight and a goal weight to give the client a clear target to work toward.

How Goals Affect the Weight Chart

The goal type directly impacts how the weight chart illustrates progress:

  • Weight loss: if the client's weight goes down, the chart shows the change in green (positive progress). If it goes up, it shows in red.

  • Muscle gain: the opposite. Weight going up shows in green, weight going down shows in red.

  • Habits: since there is no specific weight loss associated with this goal type, the chart uses the same color logic as the Muscle Gain goal.

This means that weight increases are shown in green, while weight decreases are shown in red.

The client's goal is also shown on the Development page itself - for example "Jane's Goal: Lose Weight" - so you can always see what you are coaching toward.

This means it is important to set the correct goal type for each client - otherwise the chart can look misleading. For example, a weight loss client with the wrong goal type set will see red when they are actually making progress.

Changing a Client's Goal

To change the goal type, starting weight, or goal weight, go to the client's profile and update it from their info. The weight chart adjusts automatically to reflect the new goal.
