Activity Tracking in Coachway

How activity tracking works for your clients - from automatic syncing with their watch to manual logging.

What Is Activity Tracking

Activity tracking lets your clients log everything they do - running, cycling, walking, yoga, swimming, and more - directly inside the Coachway app. For you as a coach, this means you no longer have to ask "how was your run?" - you get the data you need to give actual feedback.

Two Ways to Track Activities

Auto Sync

If your client has a smartwatch - e.g. Apple Watch, Garmin, or anything that connects to Apple Health or Health Connect - their activities sync to Coachway automatically in the background.

The flow is simple:

  1. Their watch records the activity (run, walk, cycle, etc.)

  2. The activity syncs to Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android)

  3. Coachway pulls it in automatically the next time they open the app

The client does not have to do anything extra - the data is just there. This also means Garmin is now fully supported, since Garmin Connect syncs to Apple Health and Health Connect.

Steps and activities sync automatically from Apple Health, Health Connect and connected watches. Weight does not sync. Your client logs weight themselves from the Weight card on the app home page.

Also note Coachway imports the activity type from Apple Health / Health Connect. Check the workout name in the iPhone Fitness app (or Health → Workouts). If it says an activity different than expected, the watch saved it that way.

Manual Logging

For clients without a smartwatch, or for activities where they do not wear one (a yoga class, or swimming), they can log activities manually inside the app.

Manual logging captures:

  • Activity type (run, cycle, walk, yoga, swim, etc.)

  • Distance and time

  • Pace

  • Heart rate

  • Notes

Calories are calculated automatically based on the client's weight, height, age, and gender - and can be overridden manually if they want to enter a specific value.

Splits for Runners

For running clients, Coachway now shows splits.

  • If their watch has split data, we pull it directly from the source

  • If not, we generate splits km-by-km automatically

Either way, your clients (and you) get a clear breakdown of pace per kilometer.

Note that the best way for clients to track running is through their preferred app (like Strava) or watch (Garmin, Apple, etc.), as Coachway does not have a dedicated run tracker.

Activity Detail Screen

Every activity has its own detail screen in the app with:

  • Hero section with key stats

  • Splits table for runs and cycles

  • Notes the client added

  • Source (which device or app the data came from)

Clients can edit activity details from this screen.

Auto-generated titles like "Morning run" or "Evening cycle" are added automatically - and they are localized in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, German, Dutch, Spanish, and English.

Home Feed

The home screen and history view shows workouts and activities together in chronological order. Everything is in one place - your client does not have to switch between sections to see what they did this week.

Coach View on Platform

From the web platform, you can click into any activity from a client's recent sessions and see the full details - splits, notes, source, and stats.

This means you get a complete overview of how your client trained, including their cardio and conditioning work, without needing to message them for context.

Permission Flow

If a client has not enabled the right permissions, for example, they have not allowed Coachway access to Apple Health or Health Connect - they will see a pop up on their home screen with an Enable button.

Clicking it takes them straight into their Health Connect or Apple Health settings, so they can give permission in seconds.
