Social Listening

How to use Social Listening to monitor artist mentions, comments, sounds, and fan engagement across TikTok and Instagram.

Updated today

This feature allows you to track an artist’s social account growth, and see what fans are saying and capturing in their content across Instagram and TikTok - via mentions/tags, comments, and sound usage.

Social Listening Home

The homepage displays high-level analytics for your connected profiles and social accounts. You can view data by artist profiles, individual social accounts, or all posts across your catalog.

A green checkmark beside each profile indicates that the account has been authenticated (see below).

For detailed Social Listening analytics, simply click an account from the table.

Artist Overview

The overview page allows you to filter content by account type (all accounts, TikTok, or Instagram) and by account type (fan pages or official artist accounts). This section provides a snapshot of your connected social accounts' overall performance. You can view social analytics as well as demographic information about followers.

You can export a shareable URL for this tab (and others in this page except for Mentions & Tags) by clicking the Share icon at the top of the page.

Mentions & Tags (Authentication Required)

This tab can only be used if you connect Instagram or TikTok by logging in with the artist’s credentials. In this section, you will be able to view real-time Instagram Story Mentions and all TikTok posts and comments in which the artist is tagged.

All authenticated Instagram and TikTok interactions per fan pull through to Fanbase, and are integrated into your Fan Profiles. This can help with Superfan discovery and develop richer fan segments over time.

Instagram Stories

Story Mentions allows you to view and analyze all tagged Stories by fans on Instagram. Instead of disappearing after 24 hours, these videos are saved in a private library, and are stored permanently so that you can view, analyze, and categorize content over time.

Over time, stories will accumulate, so we recommend using Events folders to organize top content by theme or event.

  • TIP: You can auto set up an Event folder ahead of time if, for example, a show is coming up. To do this, towards the top of the page you can select All Events. Select + New Event, then select ‘Auto-Add Story Mentions by date range,’ and select your dates.

TikTok Posts and Comments

TikTok posts and comments gives you real-time view of all content where the artist is tagged by name (@Artist). These posts and comments pull into the platform in real time. As with Story Mentions, you can identify the fan who tagged the artist and easily filter across fans based on verification, social following, country and performance metrics.

By syncing Social Listening with TikTok, you gain a more complete view of an artist’s online presence and fan engagement. This feature allows you to:

  • Track mentions of the artist across TikTok posts and comments to understand real-time fan conversations, and see which topics or trends are resonating with their audiences.

  • Identify highly engaged fans or influencers who are creating or interacting with TikTok content related to the artist.

  • Find content to repost or repurpose, or engage with directly in the moment.

Use cases for Mentions & Tags

  • After a show, Instagram Story Mentions is a great place to browse content from the event. You can sort on song detected, to see which songs were most popular in shared content. You can find high-quality content from shows to repost, though we recommend messaging the fan for permission or crediting them in the caption.

  • Use the Fans tab to identify high-reach and blue-tick Verified Fans engaging with the artist. You can reach out to those fans to engage in future creator promotions, or simply as fans in any broader fan recognition strategies you have (eg. exclusive event invites, early sound seeding, etc).

Authentication steps:

To access more detailed analytics and features like Instagram Story Mentions and TikTok Mentions & Tagged Posts, you must authenticate your social media accounts.

Note: Both accounts must be Business accounts.

You can sync both official accounts and fan accounts to Social Listening for an overview of your social media presence.

Posts

This tab shows all social media content posted by your connected social accounts, allowing you to monitor performance metrics for artist and fan accounts. You can sort content by various parameters, including views, date, account types, and country.

If you manage fan accounts, this provides a great view of how content is performing across all accounts simultaneously, so you can track all posts and measure collective progression.

Comments

The Comments tab collects comments across your artist’s social media posts and allows you to see fan conversations and overall fan sentiment. You can also view the geographic distribution of comments by country.

Note: Authenticated accounts pull in all comments across social platforms. Un-authenticated accounts will only pull in top comments.

You can filter comments by Verified Fans, like count, replies, and sentiment score. The sentiment score ranges from 0 (negative) to 100 (very positive). You can also use AI to search comments for specific topics or discussions.

Sounds

The sounds tab shows all social sounds associated with the profile’s catalog. This helps you understand which sounds are gaining traction across social platforms. This differs from catalog where data is song specific. You can use this information to spot early momentum for tracks gaining social traction and prioritize promotion or content around the sounds performing best.
