Note: We recommend reading the Vouchers overview article first to understand the fundamentals and capabilities of Cogniss's Voucher system.

Introduction

Vouchers can be used to restrict access to your app so that only certain users can enter your app.

Some example use cases:

  • During a beta/trial period, you may want to restrict entry to only testers of the app.

  • When your app has just been released, you may want to restrict access and test to a relevant user group only.

Note: Once you create a Voucher code, both existing and new users of your app will need to redeem the code to access your app.

The Voucher feature works by showing the user a page prompt when they first open the app, which then requires them to enter a unique Voucher code to gain access.

If the code is correct, users will receive a message showing they have successfully redeemed the Voucher code. Then, the app will be unlocked and give the user access.

How to activate the Voucher feature

Steps to activate this feature,

  1. Navigate to the Settings tab in Creator, scroll down to Access and tick the Vouchers checkbox.

  2. You can customise the default message displayed to users when requesting a voucher by adding text and by uploading an image.

  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page and save your changes.

Try opening your mobile or web app now. It will now ask for a Voucher code.

Remember: This will apply to all users. New and existing.

How to create a voucher

Go to the Vouchers tab on the left sidebar of Creator, then click Create voucher in the top right-hand corner.

Instructions:

  1. Input a Voucher Name and Description

  2. (Optional) Enable Custom code name if you wish to customize your access code. If not, the Cogniss platform will generate a string of random letters and numbers as an access code. (Note: Custom code name is unavailable for voucher type: Generator).

  3. Select the Type of Voucher. Read about the different types of Vouchers here

  4. Input the quantity of Vouchers you wish to create, their expiry date, and the duration of access. (Note: expiry and duration of access are both optional)

  5. Click Save changes

Your voucher code can now be used to grant users access to your app.

How to view Voucher redemption activity

On the Voucher page, you can see all of your app's Voucher codes. If you click on a particular Voucher, it will open up an Insights page. Here, you can track your Voucher usage and users who have redeemed your Voucher.

You can also configure your Voucher settings here. For example, you may wish to extend the duration (to allow longer access) or quantity (to give more users access).

To do this, click Settings in the top-right-hand corner.

FAQs

Q: Do users always have to use a Voucher code every time they want to enter the app?

A: No. Once users have redeemed the voucher, they will always have access up until the voucher expiry date.

Q: Can I add more 'quantity' to an existing Voucher?

A: Yes. You can configure the quantity by going to the specific Voucher's settings.
