What Are These Tools?
AI Detection
AI Detection helps flag writing that may resemble AI-generated content. It uses perplexity analysis, which measures how predictable the writing is. AI-generated text often sounds polished but follows repetitive, overly consistent patterns.
You’ll see a Full Text AI Similarity Score (0–100%) at the top of the AI Detection tab. Higher scores mean the writing more closely matches patterns commonly found in AI-generated text.
Highlighted sections show which parts of the essay most strongly resemble AI-like writing.
Plagiarism Detection
Plagiarism Detection checks the student’s writing against online sources to identify potential overlap or similarity.
You’ll see:
A similarity result
Matched sources, when applicable
This helps you understand whether parts of the submission closely match content found elsewhere online.
Grammar Check
The Grammar tool highlights spelling, sentence structure, and language issues to help students improve clarity and correctness.
This tool is meant for instructional feedback and revision support.
Important note:
Grammar feedback cannot be included in exported feedback at this time.
Where Can I Find These Tools?
Inside each student’s feedback view, you’ll see four tabs:
Comments – inline teacher feedback
Grammar – spelling and structure suggestions
Plagiarism – similarity with online sources
AI Detection – AI similarity score and highlights
Each tab gives you a different lens on the same piece of writing.
What If I Don’t See Any Highlights?
If no text is highlighted:
CoGrader did not detect strong enough signals in individual sections
If the full-text score is still high, it’s worth reviewing the essay as a whole. Sometimes the structure or tone feels AI-generated, even if no single sentence stands out clearly
Is This Always Accurate?
No detection tool is perfect, including ours.
A high score is not proof
A low score is not a guarantee
Students may paraphrase, revise, or post-edit AI-generated text, which makes detection harder.
CoGrader recommends using these tools as signals, not verdicts.
Best Practices for Teachers
Use the tools to inform your review, not replace it
Consider the assignment, student history, and writing context
If you’re unsure, use the results to start a conversation with the student
Only flag concerns formally when there’s a clear and consistent pattern

Important: Rechecking Assignments After Upgrading
If you upgrade to a plan that includes AI Detection, Plagiarism, and Grammar, previously graded assignments will not automatically re-run these checks.
To apply them to existing submissions:
Open the assignment
Click the three dots in the top-right corner
Select Re-check all for AI, Plagiarism, and Grammar
This will reprocess all submissions so the new tools appear in the feedback view.
