Works best with:
Brightspace assignments where students:
Upload files directly (PDF, DOCX, JPG, etc.)
Type their responses into the submission text box
Not compatible with:
Assignments created using Google Drive, OneDrive, or other cloud storage integrations inside Brightspace.
In those cases, the student file remains hosted in the drive and CoGrader cannot access it directly due to platform permissions.
If your students are submitting that way, use the manual Brightspace grading workflow instead.
Step 1: Import Submissions from Brightspace
Open CoGrader.
Click Grade Essay (or the type of assignment you’re grading).
Choose Import from Brightspace.
Log in using your Brightspace credentials if prompted.
Browse your Brightspace courses, select the class you want to import, and then choose the specific assignment.
CoGrader automatically pulls in the assignment prompt and attached submissions.
Set up your rubric.
If you already have a rubric in Brightspace, you can recreate or import it in CoGrader.
Add Grading Parameters and Advanced Rules if desired.
Step 2: Let CoGrader Grade
Once your assignment and rubric are set, click Import and Grade.
CoGrader will evaluate each submission based on your rubric.
Review and edit the results, add comments, or use the Chat option to refine feedback.
When satisfied, click Approve for each submission.
Step 3: Export Feedback Back to Brightspace
Click the Export button in CoGrader.
Choose Send to Brightspace.
You can also download the feedback as a PDF, CSV, or print it if you prefer.
Select which students and feedback sections you’d like to export.
CoGrader automatically attaches a feedback link to each student’s original submission in Brightspace.
How Students View Their Feedback in Brightspace
Students log in to Brightspace and open their Assignments tab.
Under the assignment title, they’ll see a Feedback: Read link.
When they click Read, the feedback page opens, showing a link generated by CoGrader.
Students need to copy and paste that link into a new browser tab to open their full feedback document.
If your school hasn’t integrated Brightspace yet or you run into issues, you can follow the manual Brightspace grading workflow instead.
