[Schoology] How to Use CoGrader with Schoology

Follow these instructions to effortlessly import student submissions from Schoology using CoGrader.

1. Schoology Integration (Only available on School plans)

Step 1: Import Submissions from Schoology

  1. Open CoGrader.

  2. Click Create New Assignment.

  3. Choose Import from Schoology.

  4. Log in using your Schoology credentials if prompted.

  5. Browse your Schoology classes and select the class you want to import, then select the assignment under that class. CoGrader will automatically pull in the assignment prompt.

  6. Set up your rubric. If your assignment already has a rubric attached in Schoology, you can recreate or import that rubric in CoGrader. See the steps on adding a rubric - HERE

  7. Add Grading Parameters and Advanced Rules as desired.

Step 2: Let CoGrader Grade

  1. Once your assignment and rubric are set, click Import and grade.

  2. CoGrader will evaluate each submission based on your rubric.

  3. You can review to make edits, add comments, or use the chat to revise the feedback. See steps on how to do that - HERE

  4. Click Approve for each submission when you're satisfied.

Step 3: Export Feedback Back to Schoology

  1. Once all submissions are approved, go to your assignment dashboard in CoGrader.

  2. Click Export.

  3. Choose Send to Schoology. (You also have the option of downloading as a PDF, CSV, or printing all)

  4. CoGrader will automatically attach each student’s feedback PDF to their original submission in Schoology.

2. How to manually add assignments from Schoology to CoGrader

Step 1: Download Student Submissions from Schoology

1. In Schoology, open the course and click on the assignment you want to grade.

2. Click the “Download All” button (you’ll find it in the right-hand pane).

3. Choose “Save File” and click OK.

4. Extract the .zip file:

  • Windows: Right-click the file and select “Extract All…”

  • Mac: Double-click the .zip file to open it

Step 2: Upload Submissions to CoGrader

1. Open CoGrader.

2. Click Grade > Create Manually

3. Enter the assignment name and prompt

4. Select or create a rubric, add Grading Parameters and Advanced Rules as desired

5. Click Upload Files and select the extracted student submissions

Alternative (Google Assignments Inside Schoology)

If your students submitted using Google Assignments inside Schoology:

1. Open the assignment in Schoology and click Submissions

2. Click the “Open” button on a student submission to open the Google Doc

3. In the Google Doc, click “Move” (next to the file name)

4. Click “Open folder in new tab” to locate the full assignment folder in Google Drive

5. Copy the folder name and go to CoGrader

6. Click on Grade > Create Manually

7. Enter the assignment name and prompt

8. Select or create a rubric, add Grading Parameters and Advanced Rules as desired

9. Click Import from Google Drive

10. Search for the folder name and select the student files to import

Step 3: Review and Approve Grading

Once grading is complete:

  1. Open each submission in CoGrader

  2. Review the score and feedback

  3. Make any edits or adjustments as needed

  4. When you're satisfied, click Approve

Step 4: Export Feedback from CoGrader

  1. Return to your assignment dashboard

  2. Click Export Feedback

  3. Choose Download as PDF

  4. CoGrader will generate a zip file containing all student feedback

Step 5: Upload Feedback Back to Schoology

  1. Go back to the assignment in Schoology

  2. Click “Add Attachment” or “Upload File” for each student as needed

  3. Attach the relevant feedback PDF from the CoGrader export zip

  4. Refresh the page to confirm attachments are visible
