What connectivity do fans need to participate in CUE's web-based Light Show?

Fans need minimal connectivity to participate in the web-based Light Show — roughly equivalent to what's required to send a basic text message (SMS). This extremely lightweight data requirement means the Light Show works reliably even in venues with challenging connectivity conditions, crowded networks, or mixed Wi-Fi and cellular environments. Fans simply scan a QR code to load the experience, and typical participation rates are 97-98% even in crowded venues with strained networks.

Once fans have scanned the QR code and loaded the Light Show webpage, connectivity demands are minimal. The system is designed to work on 3G, 4G, 5G, or Wi-Fi connections — fans don't need strong signal or fast internet speeds.

For venues with absolutely no connectivity whatsoever, CUE also offers the app-based Light Show (version 1.0) which uses ultrasonic audio triggers embedded in the venue's sound system. With this approach, fans can load the experience when connectivity is available (such as before entering the stadium), and then the show synchronizes via inaudible audio signals rather than requiring internet connectivity during the actual performance.

On the operations side, CUE recommends hardwiring the operator's computer to the internet via ethernet for the most reliable experience, as stadium Wi-Fi can become congested during live events. However, for fans participating, cellular data is sufficient.
