CUE's web-based Light Show requires camera permission to control fans' phone flashlights and create synchronized light effects across the venue. Camera permission is required because accessing the flashlight (the LED light next to the camera lens) is technically done through the camera API on both iOS and Android devices — this is a standard smartphone security requirement, not something unique to CUE.
Depending on your synchronization settings, fans may also need to grant microphone permission. If you're using Global Sync mode with reliable venue connectivity, microphone permission is not required since audio triggers aren't needed. In this configuration, fans only need to grant camera permission.
The permission request happens once when fans first join the Light Show after scanning the QR code. Most browsers will remember these permissions for future visits, though some privacy settings may require fans to re-grant permission at subsequent events.
With Global Sync mode enabled, the experience is streamlined to just two button clicks: fans scan the QR code and tap 'Continue,' then grant camera permission, and they're ready to participate. When using audio-based synchronization, fans will grant both microphone and camera permissions in the same flow.
Note: CUE does not access or record any camera footage — the camera permission is solely to control the flashlight. Every screen in the onboarding flow, including permission request screens, can be fully customized with your team's branding to maintain a cohesive, professional experience for fans and to help maximize participation rates by clearly explaining why permissions are needed.
