Find out how (and why) to freeze Item and Cue Block numbers

Updated over a year ago

As mentioned in What are Item and Cue Block numbers?:
When viewing an Episode, whether in in Rundown view, Script view or both side-by-side, you will notice that Items and Cue Blocks are sequentially numbered. This numbering is to better identify the different Items and Cue Blocks for the team working on the production, making it easier to call out or ask information for these Items or Cue Blocks. Numbering is automatically updated when Items or Cue Blocks are moved to a different position in the Episode.

In Cuez, these Item and Cue Block numbers can be 'frozen' to keep them from changing. This can be particularly helpful when you want to 'lock in' a certain numbering to assure to everyone on the team knows which number refers to which Item or Cue Block for example.

How to freeze Item and Cue Block numbers

In order to freeze the Item and Cue Block numbers, you can use the ❄ icon either at the top of the Rundown or Script, or via the action menu (three vertical dots ⁝ ) at the top of the Episode.

Using this icon will freeze the numbering, putting a rectangle around the number, indicating their frozen state. When frozen, the ❄ icon will become black instead of light grey.

With the numbering frozen, you can now move Items and Cue Blocks to a different position in the Episode without affecting their number.

E.g.: When moving Item 1 to a position between Items 2 and 3 while frozen, Item 1 will retain its current numbering of 1. The order of the Items would in that case become 2, 1, 3.

How to unfreeze Item and Cue Block numbers

If the numbering no longer needs to be frozen, or if you want to 'reset' the numbering to go back to a logic numerical order, you can click the ❄ icon again to undo the frozen state.

A message will show to warn that the numbers will indeed go back to a logical order. Confirm to proceed with this action.

E.g.: If we had Items frozen in an order of Item 2, Item 1, Item 3 and then unfreeze, the Items themselves will remain in their current positions, but the numbering would now become Item 1, Item 2, Item 3.
