What can I do with custom properties?

The Calculated Properties feature in Curate offers businesses a dynamic way to automate calculations tied to events, saving time and reducing manual errors. This feature is particularly useful for creating custom fees—such as delivery charges, venue commissions, or design fees—based on line item categories. By leveraging calculated properties, businesses can increase efficiency and enhance their operational accuracy.

How This Feature Drives Business Success

  • Enhanced Customer Experience: Provide clients with transparent and accurate fee breakdowns, leading to greater trust.

  • Operational Streamlining: Reduce time spent calculating and updating fees, freeing up resources for other business needs.

  • Revenue Optimization: Automate fee-based pricing, ensuring no potential revenue is overlooked.

Industry Applicability: The flexibility of calculated properties allows for various use cases, making it valuable across multiple event-based industries.

Key Use Cases

  • Florists: Calculate design or delivery fees as a percentage of floral and greenery costs.

  • Caterers: Automate beverage or service fees based on specific menu items.

Venues: Compute commissions or rental fees tied to specific event spaces or services.

Navigation

From the left sidebar, click Settings and then Custom Properties.

How to add a custom property

  • Once you navigate to the Custom Properties page, locate and click the option called Add custom property

  • This will activate a slide out menu with options. Here's a breakdown of each option:

    • Property Type - This dropdown will give you two options. By selecting Event, this will enable the new custom property to be displayed automatically on the Event Overview page of an event or make it a selectable option while working on creating/editing a form. Contact will make the new custom property be displayed on your contacts page

    • Field Type

      • Calculated Property (aka Linked Price on Line Items) - For this type of property, I advise to check out the video on it's KB article link. This can be used for adding fees to an event proposal such as a Service fee, or other things like travel, venue or design fees.

      • Date - Only dates can be entered

      • Number - Only numbers can be entered

      • Currency - Only currency notes can be entered

      • Address - This will access our integration with Google Maps to help identify the correct location as the user is typing it out

      • Single-line text - Small text box

      • Multi-line text - Larger text box

      • Dropdown - A single response can be selected from a dropdown list.

      • Radio Button - A single response can be selected from a list of options with clickable radio buttons

      • Checkbox - Multiple selections can be made with by checking boxes

      • True/False - Checkbox for a true or false question

    • Name - We recommend to make the name of the new custom property something that's easy to understand at a later time

    • Internal/Token Name - By default, this field will automatically begin filling in as you type out the name of the property in the last bullet point. You can make a change to the token name while creating it, but you will not be able to change it later. It's important that this field is also easy to understand at a later time as this is what you'll be selecting to have the data display within your events

    • You may see additional settings to configure based on the property type. Please review the details of those settings and fill them in appropriately

  • Once you have all the information entered, don't forget to click the Create button on the top right!

How to edit a custom property

Note: The only thing you will be able to edit is the name of the custom property. This is by design to prevent confusion within the system for how these fields are used.

  • Navigate to the Custom Properties page

  • Locate the name of the property and click into it

  • As mentioned before, you can only edit the name. If this is what you're looking to do, proceed to making the edit and click the Done button

  • If you're wanted to redo a custom property, we suggest to archive the one that you're not using and make a new one. Please note that the Internal/Token Name can not be reused once it's been entered.

How to archive or unarchive a custom property

  • Locate the name of the custom property and click the ... to the right. This will give you an Archive option to select

  • To unarchive a property, click on the Archived tab

  • Locate the name of the custom property and click the ... to the right. This will give you an Unarchive option to select

How can I tell how many custom properties I'm allowed to use?

  • Navigate to the Subscriptions page within Curate. Under the Manage section, it will mention how many custom property fields you're allowed to have. Each subscription plan has a different amount that can be viewed within the Change Plan screen
